The Oil Export Boom

When George W. Bush signed legislation in 2007 to subsidize and mandate the production of biofuels, he cited the urgent need to liberate America from “long-term” dependence on “oil from foreign lands.” Turns out there was an easier, much less expensive way: drill, baby, drill.

The Energy Information Administration announced this month that the port district of Houston-Galveston began exporting more crude oil than it imported for the first time. Houston-Galveston exports in April surpassed imports by 15,000 barrels a day, and by May the difference had grown to 470,000 barrels a day. That port district handles more than half of all U.S. crude exports, which hit a record of two million barrels a day in May.

The export boom is testament to U.S. ingenuity that has driven rapid advances in hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling, especially in shale rock. The breakthroughs have lowered drilling costs and put Texas’s Permian Basin at the center of an oil-and-gas drilling revolution that will next year see the state producing more oil than either Iraq or Iran.

Washington also gets credit for removing regulatory hurdles like the oil export ban. Republican leaders in Congress took flak in 2015 for agreeing to extend green-energy subsidies for a few years in return for Barack Obama’s signature on a statutory end to the 40-year-old export ban.

Some conservative pressure groups derided the policy trade as a sellout while liberals complained that ending the ban would serve Big Oil. The real beneficiaries are workers, investors and the overall economy, as well as greater flexibility in foreign policy as the U.S. is less vulnerable to authoritarian oil exporters.

The U.S. is unlikely to be a net oil exporter soon, since American refineries require heavy crude from abroad. Shale drillers produce lighter grades. But the gap between imports and exports shrank in 2017 to a 24-year low of 6.8 million barrels a day from more than nine million in 2012. The lesson is that American invention and entrepreneurship remain indomitable—when government gets out of the way.

Robert Mueller’s Gang of Angry Democrats Just Lost Two Members

Two of Robert Mueller’s prosecutors quit the office of special counsel, the Justice Department confirmed this week.

Prosecutors Ryan Dickey and Brian Richardson, two of the more junior lawyers quit Mueller’s team.

Peter Carr, a spox for the special counsel said that neither Dickey nor Richardson left the office because of political allegations, the appearance of bias or any other wrongdoing, CNN reported.

Mueller’s team of angry Democrat lawyers in now down to 15 from 17.

Richardson recently became a research fellow at Columbia Law School, according to the law school’s spokeswoman Nancy Goldfarb.

Dickey will continue to work on criminal matters at the Justice Department. Though he worked out of Mueller’s office last year, he was always employed by the Justice Department’s criminal division, specializing in computer and intellectual property crimes.

He has not officially removed himself in court from the legal teams prosecuting three ongoing Mueller-initiated cases. The cases involving Dickey are the indictment of 12 Russian military agents for allegedly hacking Democrats during the election, 16 Russians and companies accused of operating a social media troll farm to influence American voters and the plea deal of a California-based online bank account auctioneer who admitted to identity fraud that helped the Russian social media trolls. That online auctioneer, Richard Pinedo, is scheduled to be sentenced on October 1.

• Elizabeth Prelogar, an appellate attorney on detail from the Office of the Solicitor General. -Fluent in Russian; former law clerk to Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan.
• James Quarles, a former partner at WilmerHale and a former assistant special prosecutor for the Watergate Special Prosecution Force. –Former assistant special prosecutor on the Watergate Special Prosecution Force.
• Jeannie Rhee, a former partner at WilmerHale who has served in the Office of Legal Counsel at DOJ and as an assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. — Rhee is a Clinton Foundation Lawyer and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Legal Counsel under Barack Obama.
• Brandon Van Grack, an attorney on detail from the Justice Department’s National Security Division.
• — Led a grand jury inquiry in Northern Virginia scrutinizing former Trump associate Michael Flynn’s foreign lobbying.
• Aaron Zebley, a former partner at WilmerHale who has previously served with Mueller at the FBI and has served as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia. — Worked with Robert Mueller at the WilmerHale firm.
• Zainab Ahmad, a top national security prosecutor on detail from U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York.
• Michael Dreeben, an appellate attorney on detail from the Office of the Solicitor General, described by former colleagues as one of the brightest criminal law experts of the past two generations.

Peter Strzok and his mistress Lisa Page were thrown off of the investigation after Trump-hating text messages between the two FBI agents were discovered by Inspector General Horowitz.

In May, the office of special counsel released a statement of expenditures revealing over $17 million had already been spent on the fraudulent Russian collusion investigation.

Justice Department official Bruce Ohr had contact in 2016 with Andrew Weissmann, now a top Robert Mueller deputy, as well as other senior FBI officials about the anti-Trump dossier, two sources tell Fox News.

Catherine Herridge, in a report on FoxNews.com writes that the sources said Ohr’s outreach about the dossier – as well as its author, ex-British spy Christopher Steele; the opposition research firm behind it, Glenn Simpson’s Fusion GPS; and his wife Nellie Ohr’s work for Fusion – occurred before and after the FBI fired Steele as a source over his media contacts. Ohr’s network of contacts on the dossier included: former FBI agent Peter Strzok; former FBI lawyer Lisa Page; former deputy director Andrew McCabe; Weissmann and at least one other DOJ official; and a current FBI agent who worked with Strzok on the Russia case.

President Donald Trump’s new sanctions on Iran are meeting fierce opposition from the European Union — and there’s not a damn thing Brussels can do about them.

With the U.S. unilaterally re-imposing economic sanctions on Teheran, the EU has passed a “blocking statute” that “forbids EU persons from complying with the (Iran) sanctions” and promises to help European businesses and financial institutions recover damages due to the sanctions.

But nobody is biting. European bankers and businesses are all signaling that they have no real choice but to obey the sanctions, regardless of what the EU says.

Risky Business, a financial periodical, reported that “the largest European companies are making plans to close their business units in Iran or have already done so, all to the great distress and dissatisfaction of the European Union’s (EU) foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini.”

Patrick Pouyanné, the French CEO of the huge oil company Total, said, “You cannot operate in 130 countries in the world without access to US financial system. Therefore, we are enforcing and complying with US laws and have to leave Iran’s profitable market.”

Soren Skou, head of Denmark’s Maersk shipping line, said, “With the sanctions the Americans are to impose, you can’t do business in Iran if you also have business in the US, and we have that on a large scale … I am certain we’re also going to shut down in Iran.”

The most compelling threat that is making companies toe the line on sanctions, ignoring the EU’s appeal, is cutting off the access of businesses and banks to Society for Worldwide International Financial Telecommunications. SWIFT is the main way banks and other financial institutions process their transactions. It handles 15 million messages a day from 11,000 institutions in 200 countries. Since the sanctions prohibit dollar dealings with Iran, companies and banks cannot use SWIFT. Citi and JPMorgan sit on the SWIFT board.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas is pushing Europe to establish an alternative to SWIFT, but as Richard Goldberg and Behnam Ben Taleblu of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies write, the German plan is doomed. “Given the current strength of the U.S. dollar and the deterrent power of secondary sanctions, no legitimate actor will want to use a payment channel that cannot do business in dollars and subjects all participants to a total cutoff from the U.S. financial system.”

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has rounded up 15 colleagues to urge Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to enforce U.S. sanctions against SWIFT banks if they fail to disconnect from Iran before sanctions come back in force in November.

Critics of Trump’s go-it-alone course on sanctions say that China, Russia and India might step into the void and help Iran survive. But Richard and Taleblu write that “Chinese banks are highly exposed to the U.S. financial system.

With China’s economy cooling, and the country’s banks potentially overextended on credit, state planners in Beijing can ill afford additional risk.”

Russia is too hobbled by U.S. sanctions already to risk another layer being imposed over Iran, and the State Bank of India has announced that it will stop processing payments for Iranian oil beginning in November.

Nor will a cutoff of Iranian oil have an upward effect on oil prices. U.S. production is soaring and Saudi Arabia — a strong backer of the new sanctions — has promised to raise production by two million barrels per day to offset the loss of Iranian oil.

Indeed, when sanctions on Iranian oil were first imposed in 2011, Iran petroleum exports dropped 42 percent but global oil prices actually fell.

Ever since the deal with Iran was signed in 2015, the Obama administration has raised the need for global unity to argue against unilateral U.S. action.

But now the EU and the appeasers have huffed and puffed and failed to blow the sanctions house down. It’s a lesson in U.S. power and EU weakness.



Here’s Proof That Americans Don’t Need Immigrants To Take Their Jobs

And now liberals are losing one of their biggest fights for letting immigrants enter the country.

Unemployed Americans Fighting for Their Jobs

Immigration is leading to a lack of jobs for American citizens.

But not for long.

Arguments that immigrants need to do jobs not filled by American workers have been a topic of much debate.

A recent report proved that this is fake news.

The Center for Immigration Studies released a report entitled, “There are No Jobs Americans Won’t Do.”

The report claims that immigrants hold 6 of every 474 jobs.

It clearly states the loss of these jobs is still affecting unemployed Americans.

Americans still need these jobs, but they are advertised as not wanted or low pay.

The False Reports Leading to These Claims

Some reports say that Americans don’t want to put in hard work.

In research out of  New York, thirty farmers said they had to hire immigrants, their reason was that the Americans were too “unreliable.”

The study done by Cornell Farmworker Program is one-sided.

It focused on richer areas of the country where farm work is not common.

However, it is a key economic factor for those in the Midwest.

But not so much for states where the research took place, like New York.

The Midwest is also the primary area to where illegal immigrants flock.

False reports fueled liberal claims that Americans didn’t want the jobs.

Americans who need jobs are willing to do hard work despite the claims these reports make.

These random surveys are supporting the idea that Americans do not want to do hard labor, but most are hardworking.

Why Americans Need These Jobs

Americans who are near the poverty level feel the impact of illegal immigration.

Those with less education often compete for jobs.

Often, lower-income Americans lose jobs because employers pay immigrants “under the table” for less pay.

This is leading to higher unemployment.

President Trump has been fighting immigration since he began his presidency, as previously reported by American Patriot Daily.

President Trump has pushed for border control, but the fight is not over yet.

Trump wants to have the Border wall built to keep them out.

He initially wanted Mexico to pay for the wall but has decided the funds will come from taxpayers.

Despite fights from Democrats, funding for the wall is in sight.

Senator John McCain: An American Patriot

When Callista and I first heard the news that Senator John McCain had died we were deeply saddened for his family. We are especially close to his daughter, Meghan, and had watched her devote endless hours in Arizona being with her dad as he fought the same terrible brain malignancy which had taken Senator Ted Kennedy. Senator McCain actually died on the ninth anniversary of Senator Kennedy passing away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Meghan, her mother Cindy, and their entire family.

Senator McCain’s death is an appropriate time to think about this extraordinary man and his life.

I had been shaped in my view of McCain by my good friend Chuck Boyd. General Boyd had been a prisoner of war in Vietnam for nearly seven years (1966-1973) and is the only POW from the Vietnam War to achieve four star rank. He respected John McCain from the bottom of his heart. He felt that McCain had shown courage and loyalty both to America and to his fellow POWs.

By the time McCain won a House seat in 1982 he was already a significant figure. He had become close friends with the Reagans and was a remarkably effective congressional liaison for the Navy (often pushing a buildup in opposition to the Carter Administration for which he was supposedly working).

When John came to the House he was well known, energetic, enthusiastic, and very personable. Both Democrats and Republicans liked him. He was also opinionated, argumentative, and enthusiastically prepared to stand up for his beliefs.

One of my most personal encounters with John was in 1986 when I was in a very intense fight with the Democratic leadership. Two physically large House Democrats came over and said they were sick and tired of what I was doing and I ought to know there would be a pay back. One of them said “we are coming for you.” I had not realized that McCain had calmly come over to stand next to me. The second the Democrat sounded threatening, John instinctively stepped closer to me and said “when you come for Newt come for me too, the name’s McCain.” I almost had the feeling I was seeing the kind of instinctive protectiveness he had developed for fellow Americans in the Vietnamese prison camp.

McCain’s greatest passion was for defending America. He spent endless hours trying to strengthen our military and to develop and implement effective strategies for national security. When he became chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee he asked me to join a small group that included then retired General Jim Mattis to discuss strategic planning for defense.

John was always pushing the margins, looking for new ideas, and trying to find better ways to do things.

McCain was a maverick in the Republican Party, in his approach to being a Senator, and in his relationship with presidents.

Frankly, all three were good for America. We need a few more mavericks, not a few more conformists.

Senator McCain understood that the Constitution was designed to have a strong Senate which could stand up to the Executive Branch. In a series of policy fights he was prepared again and again to use his Senatorial powers to take on the bureaucracy and the president. His independence was bipartisan. He was prepared to take on President Bush, and he was prepared to take on President Obama. That is how our Constitution is supposed to work.

For 81 years John McCain loved his country, lived his life as a patriot, and accepted hardships with which few Americans have had to live.

The depth and intensity of McCain’s patriotism, his love for America, and his deep commitment to us remaining a free country are an inspiration to every American.

His is a life worth studying and praising.

MSNBC Anchors Call Pro-Life and Pro-2nd Amendment Voters ‘Selfish’

“MSNBC Live” hosts Stephanie Ruhle and Ali Velshi accused voters who continue to support President Donald Trump of being selfish, saying it is solely based on their own pocket books or their stubborn pro-life or pro-Second Amendment positions.

The two MSNBC personalities made the argument during a segment with fierce Trump critic Tom Steyer on Thursday.

The California billionaire has been calling for Trump’s impeachment from early in his presidency and has spent millions in television ads promoting that effort.

Ruhle said to Steyer, “While we could find or do find the president’s constant lying or lawlessness or reprehensible behavior morally unacceptable, a lot of people vote pretty selfishly, and they say, ‘What’s going to give me more money in my pockets?’”

Velshi then chimed in, “Or what’s going to make abortion illegal, or what’s going to make sure that my Second Amendment rights stay the same, and clearly, that adds up to enough people that the president still has something akin to 40 percent of the electorate in polls.”

“It’s kind of fascinating to us, as I’m sure it is to you,” Velshi commented to Steyer.

The activist responded, “For about 80 percent of Americans this isn’t working at all. Things are actually worse.”

Steyer argued what while it is true the economy is growing, most workers are seeing less real buying power with the money they earn due to inflation.

According to The Wall Street Journal, workers’ wage increases are in fact keeping just ahead of inflation.

The Journal also anticipated “companies, which have raised wages in recent years as unemployment fell, may have to raise them further as workers become harder to find.”

At a cabinet meeting earlier this month, Trump’s top economic advisor Larry Kudlow said that America’s current economic boom launched under Trump is the most important and underreported story of the year.

The unemployment rate in July was 3.9 percent, while the Gross Domestic Product grew at 4.2 percent in the second quarter.

CNBC reported that the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank is forecasting 4.3 percent growth in the current quarter.

“By far the single biggest event, political or otherwise, this year is an economic boom that most people thought would be impossible to generate. Not a rise, not a blip — a genuine economic boom,” Kudlow said.

Trillions of dollars of capital from all over the world is coming into the United States because our economy, our investors, our workforce are crushing it right now. We are crushing it.”

“And presidential policy — low tax rates, roll back regulations, open up energy, trade reforms to help the American workforce and the employers — across the board, we’re not punishing success; we’re rewarding success,” Kudlow stated. “We’re not against businesses; we are for businesses. And we have a president who, in my words, was telling folks to take a rip at the ball, and they’re doing it.”

In Kudlow’s assessment, “We’re in the early innings.”
