Watch: Red Sox pitcher throws one of the filthiest knuckleballs you’ll ever see

By Joe Setyon

Making his first start since last April, Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright was virtually unhittable against the Tigers on Tuesday.

Wright, a 33-year-old knuckleballer, pitched seven innings and gave up no runs. He let up just two hits and walked three Tigers, while striking out six, as the Red Sox won the game 6-0.

His entire start was impressive, but it wasn’t until the top of the fifth inning that he threw what might have been the filthiest pitch in the majors this season.

Pitching to the Tigers’ Jose Iglesias with two strikes, Wright threw a knuckleball in an attempt to finish him off. Let’s just say the pitch did the job.

Iglesias took a healthy cut and missed as the ball dived to the plate. The pitch’s movement was so unexpected that it got by Boston catcher Christian Vazquez, who was still able to retrieve it and throw to first to complete the strikeout.

Here’s a close-up of the movement on that pitch, which barely spun at all as it made its way to the plate, before taking a sharp drop, rendering it unhittable.

After the game, Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire admitted that his hitters were befuddled by Wright’s knuckleballs.

“It’s a slow pitch, but it doesn’t ever do the same thing twice in a row,” Gardenhire said, per MLB.com. “There are theories, ‘If it’s high, let it fly. If it’s low, let it go.’ That wasn’t working tonight. He did a nice job. I don’t think too many of our hitters have seen knuckleballs, especially the younger guys. It was an experience for them. Maybe they’ll do better next time. That’s not an easy art.”

“You need a tennis racket to hit those things sometimes,” he added.

Wright, meanwhile, was pleased that he was able to give his team some length, despite the fact that he hadn’t started an MLB game in more than a year.

“I was definitely trying to go out there and just go as deep as I was able to go,” Wright said. “To be able to go seven was huge. I was lucky enough — I got in at one in the morning (on Monday from Houston), they got in at about 10, so you know, it’s definitely exciting and encouraging going forward. Just going to go out there and throw as many innings as I can.”

Wright said he was nervous going into the start, but settled down after the first few innings.

“That first inning, the first couple innings, I felt a little antsy, a little excited, nervous,” he said. “It’s been about a year and a half since I’ve been out there healthy throwing. It was definitely nice to get back out there.”

His manager, Alex Cora, had the perfect word to describe Wright’s performance — “outstanding.”

CAIR Furious After Trump Trolls Muslim Groups With Ramadan Dinner Bait and Switch

Activist American Islamic cultural groups — including the controversial Council on American-Islamic Relations — have protested the White House’s decision to host an iftar dinner without inviting them.
Iftar is the traditional Ramadan dinner held after sunset when observant Muslims are allowed to break the daily fast required during the holy month. The Trump White House broke with tradition by not holding one in 2017, but surprised many by hosting one this year — albeit with what The Associated Press described as “an intimate audience that included Cabinet members and ambassadors from many Muslim-majority nations including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.”
Trump wished the attendees a “Ramadan Mubarak” — a blessed holiday — and gave the assembled 30 to 40 individuals a “message of unity,” the AP reported.
“In gathering together this evening, we honor a sacred tradition of one of the world’s great religions,” Trump said. “Only by working together can we achieve a future of security and prosperity for all.”
However, several domestic Muslim groups — who have frequently clashed with the president — hosted a protest across the street from the White House called “NOT Trump’s Iftar.”
The event was sponsored by CAIR, a group that was an unindicted co-conspirator in America’s largest terrorism-funding trial and has been controversial for its ties to terrorist groups and other religious extremists.
“Wednesday’s event is designed as a counterpoint to the iftar that will take place at that same time in the White House,” CAIR stated in a news release.
“President Trump has attacked Muslims since the beginning of his campaign and codified his Islamophobia with the Muslim Bans,” a Facebook post by CAIR on the matter reads.
“Now he wants to make nice and host an iftar dinner after skipping the tradition last year. Join us this for a counter iftar held simultaneously outside the White House to say not in our name.
“Listen to people in the vanguard of the fight against Islamophobia, then join Muslims and allies as we break our fast and make sure the administration knows we support our Muslim siblings and neighbors.”
CAIR is pretty much a liberal advocacy organization at this point, and that’s not even mentioning its extremely dubious contacts with extremist groups across the globe.
The expectation that the Trump administration was going to “make nice” with CAIR and give their language about “Islamophobia” and “Muslim Bans” a venue for airing — at a White House iftar, no less — is prima facie absurd.
Yet, this seemed to be what liberals were upset about. The Huffington Post (of course) ran a piece on Wednesday’s iftar dinner titled “Trump’s White House Iftar Is Missing Major American Muslim Groups.” No, not really. It was just short a few liberal advocacy and/or extremist groups posing as Muslim organizations. And for that matter, it’s not like other groups aside from CAIR that were protesting were much better. In fact, former FBI counter-terrorism Special Agent John Guandolo argued in to Breitbart News in 2015 that the majority of Islamic organizations in America had ties to terrorism. That may be a bit of an overestimation, but if it is, it’s probably not as much of one as we might have hoped.
Is Trump trolling them a bit by hosting an iftar dinner without them — a “bait and switch” of sorts? Probably. Just by announcing an iftar dinner — which under the Obama administration included American Muslim activist groups — Trump baited the hook. Leaving out loudmouthed groups came across as a switch, a deliberate snub to exactly the kinds of activist groups that command the most fawning media attention.
The activists and the media didn’t like it, of course. But nettling Islamic activists is not an infrequent theme in the Trump administration — and not one I, or many other conservatives, particularly mind.
CAIR has long been able to pass itself off as something analogous to the NAACP, something that should have elicited laughs from a media establishment that knew better. The administration managed to highlight that and yet again send CAIR into a tizzy.
And for most people who aren’t politically active, they’ll merely see that Trump hosted an iftar dinner and stop there, not particularly interested in whether or not domestic groups like CAIR were invited (or even who CAIR actually is). So, Trump gets credit for the dinner among those with only a passing interest in politics, all the while throwing liberals into a fit and thus making his supporters happy.
In other words, he wins on all three counts. Stephen Covey would be proud.

Judge Jeanine Still Wants To Be Trump’s Attorney General

Jeff Sessions better check his closet before he goes to bed. If he’s not careful, Fox News host Judge Jeanine could be waiting inside, ready to spring on him!

Judge Jeanine is considering being President Trump’s pick to be the replacement of Jeff Sessions as attorney general. We know that the Judge is close to Trump. In fact, Trump considers Jeanine’s Fox show his favorite on the conservative network.
We also know that Jeanine is in regular contact with the President. And we know she doesn’t like Jeff Sessions, previously complaining that he didn’t have the guts to go after Hillary Clinton for illegal activities.

Likewise, we know that President Trump has soured on Sessions even more than usual. In the past few days, Trump has blasted his AG over Twitter:

Mix it all together, and you start to see that Trump could possibly appoint Pirro to be AG. It wouldn’t be the first time Trump tapped Fox talent for the high-profile role. Rudy Giuliani, a Fox regular, was chosen as Trump’s top lawyer in the Mueller probe. John Bolton, another Fox heavyweight, was also chosen as Trump’s national security advisor.
And it looks like Jeanine hasn’t stopped egging on Trump to appoint her as AG.

Politico reports:

Jeanine Pirro has a top-rated Fox News show and a forthcoming book — “Lies, Leakers, and Liberals” — but she still wants to be President Donald Trump’s attorney general.
A former prosecutor and judge, Pirro has repeatedly told Trump’s aides and advisers over the past 18 months that she’s interested in taking over as the nation’s top law enforcement official, according to four people familiar with the conversations.
Trump has dangled the possibility of giving her a top appointment. During a November meeting in the Oval Office, the president raised the possibility of nominating Pirro to a federal judgeship, according to a former administration official, though this person added that Trump was more likely engaging in flattery than seriously considering putting Pirro on the bench.

Why Kanye West and More Black Americans are Supporting Trump

By Derrick Hollie

Kanye West surprised the American music scene by dropping a single, “Ye vs. The People,” in which he and fellow rapper T.I. go back and forth about their political views.

Some are calling his vocal support of President Donald Trump nothing more than a publicity stunt. But even if that’s true, West is bringing attention to some very important issues.

At what point did Trump become such a villain and the blame for everything and everyone’s problem?

An article from Revolt TV points to “38 rap references that display Donald Trump’s fall from hip-hop grace,” including songs from Jay Z, Ice Cube, Fat Joe, Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj and Meek Mill. You get my point.

FiveThirtyEight did a study on 266 hip hop songs and lyrics referencing Trump and Hillary Clinton. From 1989 until 2015, Trump was positive and represented money, power and what many strive to achieve, including “Listen I ain’t from the slums, I fought my way up out the slum / Arrogant rich n—- , we might vote for Trump,” Cam’ron rapped on “Dope Spot” in 2015 .

Most references to Clinton were negative, including “Never Put Your Trust in Hillary Rodham”.

Even some of the nation’s most recognized black leaders, including Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, praised Trump for his diversity efforts. Trump endorsed Jackson in his failed attempt to run for president years ago.

So something besides just ideological differences has to be going on here, right?

Is it Trump? Is it the Republican Party? Is it the policies he represents? Most people I ask give reasons that are personal, as well as what they’ve heard through liberal media.

In the song West said, “See that’s the problem with this d— nation / All Blacks gotta be Democrats, man, we ain’t made it off the plantation.”

And while I wouldn’t put it quite the same way, I do believe many of the policy priorities so strongly supported by the left do more to keep people poor than they do to lift them out of poverty.

According to Forbes, “Welfare offers short-term help and long-term poverty.” The first failure of government welfare programs is to favor help with current consumption while placing almost no emphasis on job training or anything else that might allow today’s poor people to become self-sufficient in the future.

It’s hard to argue against policies that will reduce energy poverty for black and minority communities, or to defend why you dislike Betsy DeVos and K-12 education policy under this administration promoting school choice when your child attends private school.

Opportunities to pursue the American dream without worrying that an occupational license scheme will keep you from starting your own business have become a cornerstone of conservative policy, and the opportunity to receive justice under the law and take mental health into consideration is getting more and more attention every day.

These are policy priorities of the Trump administration and issues I was in favor of long before Trump became a candidate. These are issues that most African-Americans and other minorities believe in.

I rode a bike and delivered newspapers every morning from sixth through 12th grade and earned a football scholarship.

I’ve also been a small business owner under Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Trump. These and other experiences have allowed me to see life through a different lens.

For me, there’s no comparison. We’ve been more successful as a small business and family under these Republican administrations than under the Obama administration. That’s why I believe in opportunity over handouts and empowerment over entitlements.

When it comes down to it, it’s about opportunity, and that’s something we should all get behind. However, like many other blacks who have spoken out in support of the Trump administration, I’ve been called names, lost friends and gotten all sorts of clapback because I see things differently.

I’m a husband and father whose children are taught to respect everyone’s point of view — even if you don’t agree. But more and more, those who don’t follow the narrow box built for us by the left are written off as crazy.

However you choose to vote, we should all be able to agree to respect each other. Just because we disagree doesn’t mean we’re enemies. So, do you, Kanye West! And props for speaking your truth. We should all feel comfortable doing the same.

A version of this Op-Ed previously appeared on The Daily Signal website under the headline, “Why Kanye West and More Black Americans are Supporting Trump.”

Robert Mueller’s Case Just Collapsed After A Surprise Witness Stepped Forward

Robert Mueller’s collusion investigation suffered a fatal blow.

A surprise witness just stepped forward and blew a giant hole in the special counsel’s investigation.

And this shocking testimony proves Trump is innocent once and for all.
Robert Mueller’s team trumpeted the guilty plea by Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos as a significant development in his investigation.

Papadopoulos allegedly kicked off the Russia investigation by blabbing to Australian diplomat Alexander Downer about the Russians offering him dirt in the form of emails on Hillary Clinton.

Although Papadopoulos was never charged with colluding with Russia, the media took his guilty plea as an article of faith that the Trump team had advanced knowledge of Russia possessing hacked emails obtained from Democrats.

This was the alleged silver bullet that proved collusion.

But Mueller’s case just collapsed.

Mueller’s case against Papadopoulos hinges on an interaction with Maltese professor Joseph Mifsud.

The plea agreement states Papadopoulos understood Mifsud to be connected to the Russian government when they met and Mifsud claimed the Russians had “dirt on Hillary.”

But that does not appear to be the case.

The truth is Mifsud is connected to Western intelligence and he has strongly denied any connection to Russia.

Papadopoulos’ wife Simona Mangiante – who is a former attorney in the European Parliament – gave an interview to the Daily Caller where she stated that Papadopoulos had no involvement with Russian collusion and did not believe the “dirt” he was offered by Mifsud were the hacked emails from the DNC.

According to Mangiante, Papadopoulos believed Mifsud –who offered the information unprompted – was talking about the 30,000 emails Hillary Clinton said her legal team deleted from her private server.

Magiante also claimed Papadopoulos only pled guilty to a process crime of lying to the FBI about when he met with Mifsud because Mueller and his team threatened to charge him with being an agent of the Israeli government.

The Daily Caller reported: “George had nothing to do with Russia,” said Mangiante, who has acted as a sort of spokeswoman for her husband in the months since his plea deal.

Mangiante also said Papadopoulos “pled guilty because [Mueller’s prosecutors] threatened to charge him with being an Israeli agent.”

Mangiante also shot down any rumors that Papadopoulos possessed any damaging information on Trump or his campaign.

The Daily Caller reports:
“ON DEC. 8, SHE TOLD CNN THAT THE WHITE HOUSE WANTED TO “DISASSOCIATE” FROM PAPADOPOULOS BECAUSE HE HAD “DECIDED TO ACTIVELY COOPERATE WITH THE GOVERNMENT, ON THE RIGHT SIDE.”
MANGIANTE SAID SHE WAS LIMITED AT THE TIME IN WHAT SHE COULD DISCUSS ABOUT PAPADOPOULOS’ CASE. BUT SHE SAID SHE DID NOT INTEND THE REFERENCE TO DEAN TO BE AN INDICATION THAT PAPADOPOULOS WOULD REVEAL INFORMATION ABOUT COLLUSION.
“I WASN’T SAYING THAT THE CAMPAIGN WAS TRYING TO COLLUDE.”
Based on this interview, Mueller’s case is nothing more than a house of cards.

The press hyped up the Papadopoulos’ guilty plea because it allowed the anti-Trump forces to present forward momentum in the Mueller investigation.

But like the entire collusion scam, there is no “there, there.”

Papadopoulos – who never colluded with Russia or knew anything about alleged Russian interference – pled guilty to a minor process crime because Mueller threatened him with a costly and life-changing legal battle.

So Papadopoulos copped to a minor crime that could see him in jail for up to six months.

Far from being a Russian agent, Papadopoulos was an innocent victim of a maniacal and blood thirsty anti-Trump prosecutor out to score victories at any cost.

Fox News apologizes for releasing images that suggested Eagles players kneeled during anthem

Fox News apologizes for releasing images that suggested Eagles players kneeled during anthemImage via chrisdorney / Shutterstock.com
Fox News made an admitted mistake and liberals are going absolutely bonkers, even after an apology.
While discussing the Philadelphia Eagles cancelled trip to the White House, Fox News had players kneeling in prayer, giving the impression the team had kneeled during the anthem.

The Outrage

The big story of the week was the White House rescinding its invitation to the Eagles to visit the White House after the team’s first Super Bowl win.
With dozens of players saying they would not attend, the White House decided the public would be better served hosting a different type of ceremony for the fans in town.
When Fox News ran the story, the network ran several pictures of Eagles kneeling in prayer.
However, with the storyline, the implication was that the Eagles were actually kneeling during the anthem.
Zack Ertz, an Eagles tight end, saw the story and immediately called the network out on social media.
Within minutes, his tweet blew up as liberals lost their minds over the misstep by Fox News.
Then, several other Eagles ripped the network for the photos.
Not long after the story ran, Fox News deleted the story from its social media accounts and issued an official apology.
The network stated, “During our report about President Trump canceling the Philadelphia Eagles trip to the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl win, we showed unrelated footage of players kneeling in prayer.”
“To clarify, no members of the team knelt in protest during the national anthem throughout the regular or post-season last year. We apologize for the error.”

The Double Standard

This was a misstep by Fox News and whoever approved that footage should be held responsible.
Even conservatives were calling out the network because we simply need to be better than what liberals are doing.
Having said that, there was more outrage over this singular event than there has been over the numerous missteps taken by liberal networks, especially CNN.
Where was all the outrage when the footage of children in crates was attributed to the Trump administration rather than the Obama administration, when it actually occurred.
That was a far cry worse than a football story, but the liberal media is able to simply brush it off and tell another untruth.
Nobody is asking for special treatment, just a level playing field.
And the Fox News gaffe proves once and for all there are two completely different standards when it comes to conservatives and liberals.

It’s Time to “Uberize” Public Education Failure Factories

a
Public education isn’t broke.  It’s broken.
If you think paying teachers more money is all we need to fix our “failure factories,” otherwise known as our government-owned/union-managed public schools, go ahead and stop reading right now.
Because while the recent temper-tantrum teacher strikes in Oklahoma, Arizona and West Virginia may have successfully extorted across-the-board higher salaries from taxpayers, simply hiking teacher pay will no more improve public education than jacking up the pay of players on the worst-in-the-league Baltimore Orioles (sadly, my old “home” team).
When you stink, you stink…no matter how much money you get paid.
Now, to be fair, not all teachers stink on ice.  But the system they work in does. A rigid, one-size-fits-all system that treats and pays great teachers the same as stumbling, bumbling incompetents is no way to attract the best and brightest and provide a great education.
Nor is segregating kids into neighborhood schools based on their economic status.  Or treating every kid as though they learn the same way. Or at the same pace as every other kid their age.  Or taught every single subject as every other kid.
Nor is placing “graduation” rather than “education” as the top priority.  As we’ve seen coast-to-coast for decades now, we have kids leaving the public school system with diplomas they can’t even read.  This, to a large extent, is due to teachers teaching to the test rather than actually educating the child.
“The Blob” – as our public school bureaucracy is unaffectionately known – is top heavy with “administrators” who not only suck the money out of classrooms but suck the very life out of innovative teaching.
Public charter schools have provided some improvement, but they’re still hamstrung by the rotted overall system.  Indeed, in Clark County, Nevada they’re now hiring a new taxpayer-funded “snake-oil salesman” to persuade parents NOT to send their kids to a charter school.
Many private schools achieve educational excellence but remain a luxury expense for most low- and middle-income families.  And The Blob and unions have made it near impossible to get those families school vouchers to help with the cost.
So what’s the answer?  Homeschooling.
Let’s start with two of the biggest excuses The Blob trots out to shift blame for the woeful state of public education today: Lack of parental involvement and class size.
First, homeschooling is the ULTIMATE in parental involvement. Secondly, even in the biggest of Catholic and Mormon families (yeah, yeah, I know it’s a cliché), a homeschool class is much smaller than the 30-40 kids crammed into many public school classrooms.
Homeschooling is also an answer to teacher shortages.
If the government ENCOURAGED and assisted homeschooling rather than merely tolerate it, the number of kids in public school classrooms would be reduced. Thus, less need for more teachers and, as an added bonus, smaller class sizes.
Double-added bonus: Smaller education budget for taxpayers!
One obstacle to homeschooling, however, is single-parent homes and families where both parents have to work to make ends meet.  But there’s an answer for that: Uberizing.
Uber is the ride-sharing service by which individuals use their own cars to provide private transportation services to people as an alternative to taking a taxi.  The same concept – “teach-sharing” - should be embraced and promoted as a private alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar public and private schools.
“Uberizing” homeschooling would give parents who can’t or don’t want to teach their children themselves full-time the freedom and flexibility to allow someone else to do it for them in a homeschooling environment.  It’s really just an expansion of “tutoring.”
However, my understanding is that some states have laws prohibiting anyone but a child’s parent or guardian to “homeschool.”  Those laws should be repealed. That would make an “uberized” homeschooling option far more attractive and possible for families at every economic level.
It’s a brave new world out there.  Nothing The Blob has ever come up with has fixed the problem.  Especially more money.
And while homeschooling might not be the answer for every family, it’s certainly been successful for millions of well-educated homeschoolers already.  It’s time to actively support and encourage this option, rather than denigrate it.
As President Trump is wont to say, what do we have to lose?

Fenway Facts: Insider secrets about our favorite ballpark
Ever wonder why the Green Monster was built? Did you know that both of the Fenway foul poles have names? We’ve got you covered so you can impress all of your friends with your Fenway facts.

The Green Monster

Legend has it that back in the day, all the bars and restaurants on Lansdowne Street had a clear view of Fenway Park. Not wanting people to see the game without paying for tickets, Yawkey (the Sox owner) had the Green Monster built in 1914.

The Other Foul Pole

We all know about the right-field Pesky Pole(the one that’s the closest to home plate in all of baseball), but what about the other pole? Officially named the Fisk Pole in 2005, it became famous during Game 6 of the 1975 World Series, when Carlton Fisk hit a game-winning home run that ricocheted off the pole.

37,731 seats

With that few seats, Fenway Park is one of the smallest stadiums in baseball. But what isn’t small at Fenway is the Press Box—it’s the biggest one in professional baseball.

The Boston Americans

That’s what the Boston Red Sox were called up until 1907. The new team name came when the uniform colors changed and the red socks became an iconic piece of the outfit.

The scoreboard isn’t the original

Though it may look authentic, the scoreboard was redone in 2001 when the original from 1934 began to rust and deteriorate. It was meticulously created to look as close to the original as possible.

We’ve been beating the Yankees since before they were the Yankees

Back when they were the New York Highlanders, at the inaugural game at Fenway Park, the Red Sox won 7-6 in their brand new stadium.

The Red Sox are sellouts

In the best way! Fenway Park and the Boston Red Sox have the longest ticket sell-out streak in professional sports—820 games.

One final fun fact: the average cost of an uberX trip home from Fenway during the 2017 season was $13.56. Considering you can fit 4 people in a car, that seems like a better steal than 2nd base.
