Cambridge professor outed as FBI informant inside Trump campaign
A Cambridge professor with deep ties to American and British intelligence has been outed as an agent who snooped on the Trump presidential campaign for the FBI.
Multiple media outlets have named Stefan Halper, 73, as the secret informant who met with Trump campaign advisers Carter Page and George Papadopoulos starting in the summer of 2016. The American-born academic previously served in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations.
Trump accuses feds of planting ‘spy’ in his campaign
The revelation, stemming from recent reports in which FBI sources admitted sending an agent to snoop on the Trump camp, heightens suspicions that the FBI was seeking to entrap Trump campaign aides. Papodopoulous has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, while Page was the subject of a federal surveillance warrant.
“If the FBI or DOJ was infiltrating a campaign for the benefit of another campaign, that is a really big deal,” President Trump tweeted Saturday, calling for the FBI to release additional documents to Congress.
The Halper revelation also shows the Obama administration’s FBI began prying into the opposing party’s presidential nominee earlier than it previously admitted.
Halper’s sit-downs with Page reportedly started in early July 2016, undermining fired FBI Director James Comey’s previous claim that the bureau’s investigation into the Trump campaign began at the end of that month.
Halper made his first overture when he met with Page at a British symposium. The two remained in regular contact for more than a year, meeting at Halper’s Virginia farm and in Washington, DC, as well as exchanging emails.
The professor met with Trump campaign co-chair Sam Clovis in late August, offering his services as a foreign-policy adviser, The Washington Post reported Friday, without naming the academic.
Clovis did not see the conversation as suspicious, his attorney told the paper — but is now “unsettled” that “the professor” never mentioned he’d struck up a relationship with Page.
Days later, Halper contacted Papadopoulos by email. The professor offered the young and inexperienced campaign aide $3,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to London, ostensibly to write a paper about energy in the eastern Mediterranean region.
“George, you know about hacking the e-mails from Russia, right?” the professor pressed Papadopoulos when they met, according to reports — a reference to Trump’s campaign-trail riffs about Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
Sources close to Papadopoulos told NBC News that he now believes Halper was working for an intelligence agency.
Highly detailed descriptions of the FBI informant in Friday reports in The New York Times and Washington Post pegged Halper in all but name. Outlets including NBC and Fox News subsequently connected the dots. The revelation confirms a March report in the Daily Caller that outlined Halper’s repeated meetings with Papadopoulos and Page.
It is not clear if the professor was paid to speak with Trump campaign figures, but public records show that he has received large payments from the federal government in the last two years.
The Department of Defense’s Office of Net Assessment — a shadowy think tank that reports directly to the secretary of defense — paid Halper $282,000 in 2016 and $129,000 in 2017.
Halper has close personal and professional ties to the CIA reaching back decades. He is the son-in-law of a former deputy director of the agency and worked on the 1980 presidential campaign of George H.W. Bush, who had served as CIA director.
When Bush became Ronald Reagan’s running mate, Halper was implicated in a spying scandal in which CIA officials gave inside information on the Carter administration to the GOP campaign.
Meanwhile, reports emerged Saturday that Donald Trump Jr. met in August 2016 with a representative of Saudi crown princes, who offered pre-election help to his father’s campaign.
An Israeli political strategist who attended the meeting told the New York Times that their plan to carry out a pro-Trump social media campaign did not go forward.

Amazingly, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper says that spying on the Trump team was “a good thing.”
Bigger Than Watergate
When news broke of the FBI having at least one inside person in the Trump campaign broke this week, Trump was furious.
The President said it could possibly wind up being a bigger scandal than Watergate.
If these allegations are true, Trump would be 100 percent correct.
Shocking
While it is bad enough the FBI was spying on a presidential candidate, Clapper agreeing with it is more than a bit upsetting.
As the former Director of National Intelligence, Clapper should have been outraged by this.
Instead, he seemed to almost endorse this type of behavior by the FBI…
Justifying
Clapper tried to use the rumors of Russian involvement as a justification for the spying.
Mr. Clapper stated, “…the Russians pose a threat to the very basis of our political system.”
However, we all now know the source of those rumors have been unsubstantiated.
Furthermore, there were more links to Hillary and the Russians than there ever were for Trump.
If the FBI felt the need to spy on Trump, why not also spy on the Hillary Clinton campaign?
After all, wasn’t she the one with documented pay-to-play with the Russians as well as some Middle Eastern leaders?
Sen. Bill Cassidy's Doable Idea for Paying for the Wall

One of President Trump’s signature promises from his 2016 campaign was to build that “tall, beautiful wall.” Often, he would receive loud, raucous praise when he talked about it. Trump has been in office for almost a year and a half now. He has received expected pushback from Democrats. But he has also felt resistance from some Republicans. Both parties have been stingy with funding, leaving very few options. However, Sen. Bill Cassidy recently proposed a creative idea.
Sen. Cassidy suggested that money seized from drug cartels should be used to fund the wall. It is a simple idea that could work.
Asset seizures have been a method law enforcement has used for a while. If an item is determined to be used in criminal enterprise whether that is a stash house, money, vehicles, firearms, home security systems, televisions, or anything else, officers will seize the items. After the case is decided, the pieces are sold at auction, and the agency keeps the money.
Law enforcement agencies will also use seized drug money for buying new equipment or assets for their departments. They will purchase new vehicles, bullet-resistant vests, firearms, and other unique items that are needed.
Trump would be a fool if he didn’t push this idea. He needs to quickly get behind this and make it a piece of the midterm election strategy when he campaigns. Immigration is the number one issue right now. Trump-aligned candidates should promptly make the Cassidy idea a crucial part of their campaign.
The border wall is estimated to cost roughly $21 billion. Cassidy stated the cartel transports approximately $110 billion in drug money a year. Trump was only given $1.6 billion in the omnibus he recently signed. That is well short of the $21 billion he needs. Democrats and Republicans are trying to impede Trump’s agenda, leaving him not much choice.
The suggestion made by Cassidy is no different than what law enforcement does. The border wall is needed for security. Our borders are too porous. Border Patrol agents are being shot from across the border, and it’s happened more than once. Men and women that patrol the border deserve the best protection.
Trump has been stymied by either liberal progressives, or Republicans who want to make sure cheap labor is in the country for the Chamber of Commerce or the potential for votes. The Cassidy suggestion would bypass those obstructionists, and create immediate funding for the wall. Drug cartels will continue to move drug money back towards the border as long as they can, so that gives an opportunity for continuous funding.
A line Trump often used to irk Mexican ex-president Vicente was “Mexico will pay for the wall.” There are some import tax repercussions that American consumers would have felt from Mexican imports. However, seized drug money won’t hurt U.S. taxpayers. It is mostly free money for the wall. And Mexico will still pay for it so to speak.
America needs a border wall. Cassidy’s idea is doable, efficient and will not drive up the debt. Wouldn’t that be ironic if the ones bringing drugs into the country end up paying for the wall?

According to the Democrat & Chronicle of Rochester, Cuomo signed an executive order Wednesday that would grant conditional pardons to felons who’ve been released from prison but still are under court supervision through the parole system. New York law doesn’t allow felons to vote until their parole has been served, but Cuomo’s pardon would get criminals around that.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been one of the most vocal opponents of Second Amendment rights in the American political firmament. His state has intimidated and fined banks and insurers who do business with the National Rifle Association, moves which have prompted a lawsuit from the NRA.
So it probably isn’t going to surprise anybody that Cuomo began using the Santa Fe, Texas school shooting — which claimed the lives of 10 students — with all due alacrity.
“Columbine. Virginia Tech. Sandy Hook. Las Vegas. Orlando. Parkland,” an open letter from the governor began. “And now Santa Fe.
“When is enough enough? How many more innocent people have to die before you act?
“You were elected to lead — do something,” he continued. “Your first responsibility is to the people of this country, not the NRA — do something. My heart breaks for the families who have to grieve from this needless violence — DO SOMETHING.”
Cuomo signed the hyper-theatrical open letter, which was released on Twitter, with a postscript mentioning that he had daughters and an “F” rating from the NRA.
The Irish Aren’t Red-Headed Mexicans

In an interview with NPR last Friday, Trump’s chief of staff John Kelly described the illegal aliens pouring across our border in the most gentle manner imaginable.
He said that illegal aliens aren’t “bad people,” but also “not people that would easily assimilate into the United States into our modern society.” They are, he continued, mostly rural, poor, unskilled and illiterate. “They don’t speak English,” Kelly said. “Obviously, that’s a big thing.”
Kelly violated the civic religion of treating every non-American as better than an American — a potential valedictorian, Medal of Honor winner and Nobel Prize recipient. Naturally, he was called a “racist.”
So what was the point? You’re going to be called a “racist” no matter what you say, so why not be honest: Illegals are self-entitled law-breakers and thieves, stealing jobs and government benefits meant for our own people.
Our cliche-driven media huffed and puffed about Kelly’s presumed descent from immigrants.
CNN’s Don Lemon said, “But like most Americans, Kelly comes from a family of immigrants, doesn’t he?”
If you’d read “Adios, America!” Don, you’d know this is PC nonsense. As late as 1990 — a quarter-century into Teddy Kennedy’s plan to remake our nation into a Third World hellhole — half of the population traced its roots to the Americans of 1790. We’re a real country, made up of the people who created it, much like other countries.
There were Irish here at the time of our founding who fought in the Revolutionary War. I’m related to one.
CNN’s John Berman said: “(I)f I remember my high school American history — and I do — America in the midst of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century was built on immigrants.”
It’s as if nothing happened in America until 1850 — no Jamestown, no Declaration of Independence, no Constitution, no creation of a brand-new civilization out of mud.
Long before America experienced its first immigrant wave in the 19th century, this was already a wildly successful country — rich, literate and free (with one glaring exception, soon to be corrected in the only war ever fought to end slavery). We’d won a war with Great Britain, conquered the West, and invented electricity, refrigeration, suspension bridges and a democratic republic.
Twitter lit up in response to Kelly’s inoffensive remarks, with idiots pointing out that THE SAME THING WAS ONCE SAID ABOUT THE IRISH!
Yes, and the people who said it were right. Let’s not sugarcoat what wonderful immigrants the Irish were.
All immigrants have been a problem in their own way. Italian immigrants brought us organized crime, something America had never experienced before. Jewish immigrants brought us radicals, communists and anarchists, setting off bombs all over the place. Irish immigrants brought poverty and shocking levels of crime — also William Brennan and Teddy Kennedy, the two men who did more than any others to wreck our country.
In the draft riots of 1863, New York City’s Irish exploded in feral violence over the Emancipation Proclamation, fearful that they would soon have to compete with freed blacks for jobs.
The Irish ran wild, lynching blacks and burning black establishments to the ground. As described in Leslie M. Harris’ book “In the Shadow of Slavery: African Americans in New York City, 1626–1863,” the Irish rioters “made a sport of mutilating the black men’s bodies, sometimes sexually. A group of white men and boys mortally attacked black sailor William Williams — jumping on his chest, plunging a knife into him, smashing his body with stones — while a crowd of men, women and children watched.”
Luckily for the Irish, there were no ethnic activist groups leaping in to excuse their bad behavior. President Lincoln sent in federal troops to crush the savage uprising. (Hey, President Trump! Lincoln is a very popular president!)
And these were European immigrants, most of whom spoke English, contrary to the claptrap you’ve heard in reaction to Kelly’s remark this past week. Today we’re getting peasants who not only don’t speak English, they don’t even speak Spanish and are also illiterate in their own dialects.
The Irish were driven out of their country by a one-time calamity — the potato famine. This wasn’t how they always lived. Starving poverty wasn’t their culture.
Still, the Irish were — at one time — among the poorest immigrants we ever got and the slowest to assimilate. It took 120 years, by political analyst Michael Barone’s estimate. (Imagine a time when our worst immigrants were the Irish!)
And they might still be a problem if The New York Times had demanded special rights for them, the ACLU had brought lawsuits on their behalf and the Southern Poverty Law Center had screamed “racism” whenever anyone noticed their bad behavior.
Instead, no-nonsense Irish priests knocked them upside the head and told them to sober up and go home to their wives. (Back then, the Catholic Church was not about “immigrant rights”; it was about cleaning up their own bums.)
By the 1950s, the Irish were outearning other Americans. Many reformed so well that they became Republicans.
That was then, this is now.

Remember the movie, “When a Stranger Calls,” originally made in 1979 and remade in 2006? It’s about a babysitter who is harassed and threatened by a prank caller who ends up being in the house the whole time. As a nation, we face a similar situation.
There is no military on the planet that can defeat the United States, and no external force who could take us down. But we do face the threat of destruction, internally from liberals and their “progressive” policies.
Not one policy, it’s more of a “death from a thousand cuts” scenario, and it’s hard to believe destruction isn’t the plan.
One cut this week happened in Seattle, where the city government decided to tax successful businesses in yet another attempt to tackle their growing homeless problem. They imposed a $275 per employee tax on large companies that gross more than $20 million per year. That’s gross, not net. That means businesses like grocery stores, which have high gross revenues that operate on low profit margins, will be hammered.
In addition, two of the city’s largest employers – Starbucks and Amazon – were deliberately targeted because the liberals who run the city and their activist mob of flying monkeys have determined they can “afford” to pay more. These, and all the companies hit by this, already pay the GDP of many countries in taxes to a city that just last November passed a $5.6 billion budget that specifically “boosts spending on homelessness.”
Progressives, meanwhile, feel they “compromised” because the city council originally had planned a $500 per employee tax. If you think they won’t come back for another bite at that apple you are crazy. “More” is never enough for the left – more money, more control, more regulation, just more. Amazon may leave the city, as they should. Starbucks should follow, along with every grocery store in the city.
This is how cities collapse, and how governments collapse. They view their residents as serfs, their property. The money they earn is the property of the government, and the government allows them to keep some of it as a courtesy for making it.
Never once does it occur to the mob to wonder why, after decades of liberal rule, there is a growing homelessness problem in the first place. Unfettered “progressive” policies designed to end a problem have only led to more of that problem – big government failed, so the answer is bigger government.
Seattle is the latest cut, but it’s hardly the only one, nor is it the deepest.
California is festering boil on the face of the country that keeps finding new and creative ways to damage us all. In addition to the illegal alien capitol, it is now the disease capitol of the country, sexually transmitted and otherwise.
Thanks to its thwarting of immigration laws, diseases that had essentially been eradicated from the first world have made a comeback. Legal immigrants are screened to make sure they aren’t carriers of disease, illegals just march across the border. That’s why there’s been a spike in sexually transmitted diseases in the state, a new record.
It’d be all well and good if these illegals stayed in California but, like all the bad policy ideas born there, we all know they don’t.
Then there are the cuts from the culture, those ones might be the most damaging. You can ignore the news, you can move away from places and avoid people, but as long as you’re in the United States you can’t escape the culture. The subtle indoctrinations and manipulations, the lawsuits filed in the name of “justice,” the outrage over slights – mostly imagined.
Liberals have an entire infrastructure designed to rot the country from within, to herd people into tribes and keep them angry and paranoid, to create emotions to overrule thought, to make victims out of perps for their own gain. No external force can do the damage to this country some of our fellow citizens seek to do, knowingly or not. The pawns don’t know, nor do they care. But the one who do, they do nothing by accident.
What the left can’t win through the ballot box they will take to the courts, when they can’t win there they take to the streets. This is by design.
The United States has no shortage of enemies, those who would like nothing more than to see us fall. While the Russians, the North Koreas, and groups like ISIS would do anything to take us down, all they really have to do wait. We have people within willingly doing their work for them.

Multiple media outlets have named Stefan Halper, 73, as the secret informant who met with Trump campaign advisers Carter Page and George Papadopoulos starting in the summer of 2016. The American-born academic previously served in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations.
The revelation, stemming from recent reports in which FBI sources admitted sending an agent to snoop on the Trump camp, heightens suspicions that the FBI was seeking to entrap Trump campaign aides. Papodopoulous has pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, while Page was the subject of a federal surveillance warrant.
“If the FBI or DOJ was infiltrating a campaign for the benefit of another campaign, that is a really big deal,” President Trump tweeted Saturday, calling for the FBI to release additional documents to Congress.
The Halper revelation also shows the Obama administration’s FBI began prying into the opposing party’s presidential nominee earlier than it previously admitted.
Halper’s sit-downs with Page reportedly started in early July 2016, undermining fired FBI Director James Comey’s previous claim that the bureau’s investigation into the Trump campaign began at the end of that month.
Halper made his first overture when he met with Page at a British symposium. The two remained in regular contact for more than a year, meeting at Halper’s Virginia farm and in Washington, DC, as well as exchanging emails.
The professor met with Trump campaign co-chair Sam Clovis in late August, offering his services as a foreign-policy adviser, The Washington Post reported Friday, without naming the academic.
Clovis did not see the conversation as suspicious, his attorney told the paper — but is now “unsettled” that “the professor” never mentioned he’d struck up a relationship with Page.
Days later, Halper contacted Papadopoulos by email. The professor offered the young and inexperienced campaign aide $3,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to London, ostensibly to write a paper about energy in the eastern Mediterranean region.
“George, you know about hacking the e-mails from Russia, right?” the professor pressed Papadopoulos when they met, according to reports — a reference to Trump’s campaign-trail riffs about Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
Sources close to Papadopoulos told NBC News that he now believes Halper was working for an intelligence agency.
Highly detailed descriptions of the FBI informant in Friday reports in The New York Times and Washington Post pegged Halper in all but name. Outlets including NBC and Fox News subsequently connected the dots. The revelation confirms a March report in the Daily Caller that outlined Halper’s repeated meetings with Papadopoulos and Page.
It is not clear if the professor was paid to speak with Trump campaign figures, but public records show that he has received large payments from the federal government in the last two years.
The Department of Defense’s Office of Net Assessment — a shadowy think tank that reports directly to the secretary of defense — paid Halper $282,000 in 2016 and $129,000 in 2017.
Halper has close personal and professional ties to the CIA reaching back decades. He is the son-in-law of a former deputy director of the agency and worked on the 1980 presidential campaign of George H.W. Bush, who had served as CIA director.

Sami Abu Zuhri is the spokesman for the extremist group Hamas, an internationally recognized terrorist organization funded by Iran. Hamas controls Gaza and has killed innocent Israeli, American, Brazilian, Kenyan, British, French and Chinese civilians. As chief intelligence officer of the Israel Defense Forces’ Gaza division from 2012-14, I came to know Mr. Abu Zuhri and other Hamas spokesmen from a distance. Their modus operandi is simple: Lie. Their lies support the stated goal of Hamas: the delegitimization and destruction of Israel.
For weeks the international media has reported on violence on the border between Gaza and Israel. Hamas has continued to lie to the world, which is why their rare acknowledgments of truth are especially revealing. Hamas spokesmen raced to the press last week to lament the death of innocent civilians. But a senior Hamas leader, Salah Bardawil, said in a May 16 interview with a Palestinian TV station: “In the last round of confrontations, if 62 people were martyred, 50 of them were Hamas.”
Hamas itself has confirmed that 80% of those killed in their violent riots last Monday were members of a terrorist group, not innocent civilians. Several more of the fatalities were claimed by Palestinian Islamic Jihad. On May 13, Mahmoud Al-Zahar, a co-founder of Hamas, said in an interview with Al Jazeera: “When we talk about ‘peaceful resistance,’ we are deceiving the public.” You can trust Hamas only when they admit to their lies.
The Hamas spokesman orchestrated a well-funded terrorist propaganda operation. Behind the theatrics was a plan that threatened Israel’s border and civilians. Hamas provided free transportation from throughout the Gaza Strip to the border for innocent civilians, including women and children. Hamas hired them as extras, paying $14 a person or $100 a family for attendance—and $500 if they managed to get injured. Hamas forced all of their commanders and operatives to go to the border dressed as civilians, each serving as a director of an area—as if to direct their own stage of the operation.
The audience was the international media. Hamas gave anyone with a video camera front-row access to the show and free Wi-Fi. The IDF had precise intelligence that the violent riots were masking a plan of mass infiltration into Israel in order to carry out a massacre against Israeli civilians. Hamas called it a “peaceful protest,” and much of the world simply fell for it.
The idea that this was a peaceful protest is the biggest lie of all, because the basic tenets required for a protest in a democracy like the U.S. or Israel do not exist in Gaza. Under Hamas’s control, there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of assembly, no freedom of religion, no freedom of the press. There can be no such thing as a peaceful protest in Gaza, only gatherings organized, sanctioned and funded by Hamas. Calling this a protest isn’t fake news, just fake.
In multiple assaults on the border this spring, Hamas has used machine guns, Molotov cocktails, airborne improvised explosive devices and grenades. Hundreds of Gazans have tried to blow up or tear down the fence between Gaza and Israel, with the intention of infiltrating our sovereign territory and reaching innocent Israelis who live minutes from the border.
On April 6 the Hamas political leader, Yahya Sinwar, stated: “We will take down the border [with Israel] and we will tear their hearts from their bodies.” On Facebook Hamas posted maps for their operatives showing the quickest routes from the border with Israel to Israelis’ homes, schools, and day-care centers near the border. Does that sound like a peaceful protest to you?
Facing the dangers posed by cowardly terrorists who disguise themselves as civilians, IDF soldiers acted with courage and restraint, following strict rules of engagement to ensure minimum civilian injury and loss of life while still protecting the border. As part of Hamas’s propaganda operation, hundreds of Gazans were injured last week and several dozen died, most of whom were Hamas operatives. None of this violence had to occur, but it was the violence that Hamas instigated and orchestrated so that the headlines and pictures would reinforce the lies that the Hamas spokesman had planned.
Hamas can lie—to the world, to Palestinians and to their own commanders and operatives—but I am proud that the IDF will never lie or use Israeli civilians or soldiers as pawns. Some of Israel’s greatest friends might have preferred that we had looked better in the media this past week, but between vanity and truth, the IDF always chooses truth. It is that morality that sustains the IDF. The uniformed professional soldiers of the IDF may not photograph well compared with terrorists disguised as civilians—but we are honest about what we are and what we say. As the IDF spokesman, if I cannot source and cite material, I will not allow it to be published. I will not release any statement if the facts are in doubt.
Some in the media helped Hamas by publishing its lies rather than the facts. Hamas achieved negative media coverage about Israel after their first violent riot, on March 30, the first day of this propaganda operation. Hamas could have then claimed a propaganda victory, stopped the violence, and prevented many deaths. But for Hamas, lies are more important than lives.
If in order to win the international propaganda war I need to lie like Hamas, then I prefer to tell the truth and lose. The IDF will win where it matters—protecting our civilians in the face of terror. The soldiers of the IDF won this week by keeping Israeli families safe and by stopping Hamas from accomplishing its stated goals.
Even more than the lying, the true difference between Mr. Abu Zuhri and me is that he goes to sleep every night wishing for the destruction of my country and the death of my children. I go to sleep at night hoping for a better life for his children as well as mine. And that’s the truth.
