Trump Unleashes Devastating New Nickname for Sen. Richard Blumenthal

During an impromptu press conference in the White House Monday, President Donald Trump deployed a brutal new nickname for Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), mocking his past lies about serving in the Vietnam War.
“Look at some of these people asking the questions, okay?" Trump began. "Look at Blumenthal. He lied about Vietnam ... for 15 years he said he was a war hero!” the president exclaimed. "We call him Da Nang Richard. That's his nickname -- Da Nang. He never went to Vietnam!"
Trump continued, “He's up there saying, 'we need honesty and we need integrity.' This guy lied. When he was the attorney general of Connecticut, he lied! I don't mean a little bit.”
"Here's a guy [who] lied and now he's up there talking like he's holier than thou!" the president added incredulously.
Democrats appealing to Snopes for a counter-argument in the senator's favor will be sorely disappointed. The liberal fact-checker rates the claim that Blumenthal misrepresented his Vietnam record "Mostly True," even though it is, of course, 100% true:
Blumenthal made a handful of false and misleading statements about having served in Vietnam during the period of American involvement in the war there.
Snopes takes Blumenthal at his word that those misrepresentations were "totally unintentional," because he had also spoken more honestly about his military service at other times. That's why they rate the claim only "mostly" true.
But for years at various venues, the senator had referred to his service in Vietnam and what it was like returning from Vietnam.
The New York Times, to its credit, blew the whistle on Blumenthal:
Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.
The deferments allowed Mr. Blumenthal to complete his studies at Harvard; pursue a graduate fellowship in England; serve as a special assistant to The Washington Post’s publisher, Katharine Graham; and ultimately take a job in the Nixon White House. In 1970, with his last deferment in jeopardy, he landed a coveted spot in the Marine Reserve, which virtually guaranteed that he would not be sent to Vietnam. He joined a unit in Washington that conducted drills and other exercises and focused on local projects, like fixing a campground and organizing a Toys for Tots drive.
After that story came out, some took to calling him Captain Toys for Tots, but President Trump's Da Nang Richard is pretty good, too.
During his opening statement at the Senate Judiciary hearing on the decades-old sexual assault allegations against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, Blumenthal said: “The core of why we are here today really is credibility.”
President Trump just blew whatever was left of Blumenthal's credibility to smithereens.

FACT CHECK: DID KAVANAUGH REFUSE TO SUBMIT TO AN FBI INVESTIGATION OVER SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS?

Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren said in a tweet Friday that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh refused to submit to an FBI investigation over recent sexual assault allegations.
Elizabeth Warren @SenWarren
Of course we need an FBI investigation before voting. So far, Brett Kavanaugh has refused over and over again to submit to one. He lied repeatedly while under oath. I don’t know when the full Senate will ultimately vote. But NOW is the time to make your voice heard.
2:27 PM - Sep 28, 2018
“Of course we need an FBI investigation before voting. So far, Brett Kavanaugh has refused over and over again to submit to one,” Warren said in the tweet.
Verdict: False
Kavanaugh indicated that he would cooperate with any investigative actions that the Senate Judiciary Committee wanted to pursue, including an FBI investigation.

Fact Check:

The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing Sept. 27 to address a sexual assault allegation from Christine Blasey Ford, a psychology professor at Palo Alto University who said that Kavanaugh tried to remove her clothes and put his hand over her mouth at a house party when they were in high school in the early 1980s.

Kavanaugh also faces allegations from Deborah Ramirez, who attended Yale University with Kavanaugh and alleged that he exposed himself to her at a dorm party when they were freshmen, and Julie Swetnick, who claimed that Kavanaugh attended parties in high school where women were gang-raped.

The FBI conducts background checks on Supreme Court nominees, but had completed its investigation into Kavanaugh before the allegations were revealed. Democratic senators on the committee repeatedly asked Kavanaugh at the hearing whether he would support or call for the FBI to reopen its investigation, a request that needed to come from the White House.

While Kavanaugh did not directly say that he would ask for an investigation, he did not “refuse” to submit to one. He indicated that he would support and cooperate with any actions that the committee wanted to take.

“And if you’re very confident of your position, and you appear to be, why aren’t you also asking the FBI to investigate these claims?” Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein asked.

“Senator, I’ll do whatever the committee wants,” Kavanaugh responded. He noted that if the FBI reopened its background investigation to look into the claims, it would not reach a conclusion about whether the allegations were true.
Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin and Kamala Harris also pressed Kavanaugh about whether he would support an FBI investigation. Kavanaugh again said that he would do whatever the committee wants.
DURBIN: Judge Kavanaugh, will you support an FBI investigation right now?
KAVANAUGH: I — I will do whatever the committee wants to —
DURBIN: Personally, do you think that’s the best thing for us to do? You won’t answer?
KAVANAUGH: Look, senator, I — I’ve — I’ve — I’ve said I wanted a hearing and I’d said I was welcome [sic] anything. I’m innocent.
HARRIS: So I’m going to ask you one last time, are you willing to ask the White House to authorize the FBI to investigate the claims that have been made against you?
KAVANAUGH: Well, I’ll do whatever the committee wants, of course —
HARRIS: So — And I’ve heard you say that. But — I’ve not heard you ask — I’ve not heard you answer a very specific question that’s been asked, which is, are you willing to ask the White House to conduct an investigation by the FBI to get to whatever you believe is the bottom of the allegations that have been levied against you?
KAVANAUGH: The FBI would gather witness statements, you have witness statements —
HARRIS: Sir, it’s — it’s — it’s — I’m not — I don’t want to debate with you how they do their business, I’m just asking are you willing to ask the White House to conduct such an investigation? Because as you are aware, the FBI did conduct a background investigation in to you, before we were aware of these most recent allegations. So are you willing to ask the White House to do it — and say yes or no and then we can move on.
KAVANAUGH: I’ve had six background investigations over 26 years —
HARRIS: Sir, as it relates to the recent allegations are you willing to have them do it?
KAVANAUGH: The witness testimonies before you — no witness who was there supports that I was there —
HARRIS: OK, I’m going to take that as a no and we can move on.
Kavanaugh said in his opening statement at the hearing that he welcomed an FBI investigation after Ford’s allegations first became public. “When this allegation first arose, I welcomed any kind of investigation, Senate, FBI or otherwise,” he said. “The committee now has conducted a thorough investigation, and I’ve cooperated fully. I know that any kind of investigation — Senate, FBI, Montgomery County police — whatever, will clear me.”

Soon after Ford’s allegations became public, Kavanaugh said in a statement that he was “willing to talk to the Senate Judiciary Committee in any way the Committee deems appropriate to refute this false allegation, from 36 years ago, and defend my integrity.”

President Donald Trump ordered the FBI Sept. 28 to conduct a supplemental investigation into the nominee. Kavanaugh said in a statement that he would continue to cooperate.

Warren’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

OBAMA ENDORSES SOCIALIST OCASIO-CORTEZ

Joe Simonson | Media Reporter

Former President Barack Obama included support for New York congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in a slew of new endorsements for the midterm elections announced Monday.

Ocasio-Cortez won the Democratic primary against incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in June in an upset that shook the party establishment.

A dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, Ocasio-Cortez’s victory signaled a sharp shift to the left among the Democratic Party base.

Despite her war against the party’s establishment, Ocasio-Cortez still earned Obama’s blessings.

“The Democratic Party has always made the biggest difference in the lives of the American people when we lead with conviction, principle, and bold, new ideas. Our incredible array of candidates up and down the ticket, all across the country, make up a movement of citizens who are younger, more diverse, more female than ever before,” said President Obama in a statement. “They’re Americans who aren’t just running against something, but for something. They’re running to expand opportunity and restore the honor and compassion that should be the essence of public service. I’m proud to endorse so many of them today, and I’m eager to continue making the case for why they deserve our votes this November.”

Obama’s new round of endorsements signal his eagerness to dive into the upcoming elections. Since September, Obama has campaigned for candidates in Illinois, Ohio, California and Pennsylvania.

A spokesman for the Republican National Committee responded to Obama’s endorsement in an email to The Daily Caller.

“President Obama oversaw slowest economic recovery in modern history and it cost Democrats more than 1,000 seats. By tying these candidates to his failed economic policies, he’s helping ensure they suffer the same fate,” said Michael Ahrens.

Graham Calls for Full-Scale Investigation into Feinstein
South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham became the latest GOP voice to slam California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein over the contentious sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
This follows Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton also calling for an investigation into Feinstein’s actions.
While Cotton certainly wields some political influence, Graham’s actions carry a little more bite with that bark.
If Republicans are able to retain control of the Senate following next month’s midterms, Graham is one of the candidates to chair the Judiciary Committee, according to the Daily Caller.
Appearing on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, Graham made his intentions perfectly clear.
“The FBI will do a supplemental background investigation, then I’m going to call for an investigation of what happened in this committee,” Graham said.
Kavanaugh’s accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, had reportedly wanted confidentiality when she initially told Feinstein about the alleged assault.
Considering the way in which Ford has been thrust into the national spotlight, she obviously didn’t get her wish.
That’s truly the crux of Graham and Cotton’s call to investigate Feinstein. Both senators are correct in their approach.
As a sexual assault victim, Ford should be heard. Regardless of what you think her motives may be, she deserves a chance to present her case. While her stark lack of evidence to back up her claims is certainly eyebrow-raising, hearing her out is how due process plays out.
By that same token, Kavanaugh should not be maligned until the case is closed. A fundamental tenet of American law is to withhold presumptions of innocence and guilt until due process plays out.
What is very much fair game to excoriate, however, has been the Democrats’ handling of the entire scandal.
If Ford truly wanted confidentiality, the Democratic leadership has failed her spectacularly.
I can’t definitively say that Democrats weaponized an alleged sexual assault victim’s trauma for political gain. But if that is, in fact, what has happened, it fully deserves to be vetted and investigated.
“Who betrayed Dr. Ford’s trust? Who in Feinstein’s office recommended Katz as a lawyer? Why did Ms. Ford not know that the committee was willing to go to California?” Graham asked on “This Week.”
Graham’s last question is certainly worth looking into. If Ford’s lawyers, provided by Democrats, intentionally misled or withheld information regarding the committee’s willingness to meet with her in California simply as a way to help Democrats delay the confirmation process, that is reprehensible and a gross misuse of power.
“We’re going to do a wholesale, full-scale investigation of what I think was a despicable process to deter it from happening again,” Graham noted.
If this was an intentional play, Democrats should be ashamed for ever letting it happen at all.

McBrothels: You Want Fries with That, Sweetie?

(Chuck Muth) - Today, class, we’re gonna talk about sex.  But don’t worry…it’s PG-13.
In a column published on June 7, 2018 by the Reno News & Review, Dennis Myers criticized the “No Little Girl” campaign to outlaw LEGAL brothels in Lyon County (Lyon County Question 1 on November’s ballot), noting that “the saying is misleading, since it is illegal for underage girls to work in the brothels in the first place.”
“Misleading” is a charitable description of the crapplola these “saviors” have been shoveling in their high-horse moral crusade.
Mr. Myers also wrote that anti-brothel activist Melissa Holland of the Awaken Reno organization “was originally scheduled to speak at the Nevada Women’s Lobby (NWL) luncheon” that he attended, “but she failed to appear and sent(Kasia) Klaus in her place.”
He noted that Holland’s scheduled talk was to be on “the sex trafficking epidemic in Reno” and had intended to ask Holland or Klaus “to define the epidemic, since it has not received such a description in most news coverage or public agency announcements.”
Alas, “Klaus said she wasn’t allowed by Holland to represent Awaken or to respond to questions.”  How convenient.
But here’s what Klaus DID say in her remarks that every resident, homeowner and business owner in Lyon County – currently home to four LEGAL brothels - better read…
“She said prostitutes do not hang out in ‘back alleys’ anymore, but when they are asked ‘Where are you guys hanging out?’ they answer ‘McDonald’s, the mall, Starbucks.’"
Now, let’s make sure everyone understands EXACTLY what we’re talking about here…
There’s always been prostitution and there always will be prostitution.
There’s prostitution in Lyon County and there’s prostitution Washoe County/Reno.
In Lyon County it’s legal.  In Washoe County/Reno it’s illegal.
In Lyon County prostitution happens in controlled, regulated and taxed brothels located in obscure, out-of-the-way industrial parks surrounded by junk yards, boat storage lots and auto repair shops.
In Washoe County/Reno it happens in your neighborhood McDONALD’S, THE MALL and STARBUCKS!
One must assume the ladies are also prowling the local Denny’s, where the infamous Grand Slam Breakfast might need to be renamed the Grand Slam-Bam-Thank-You-Ma’am Breakfast.
Kidding aside, Mr. Myers made one final great point in his column: Klaus and her moral crusaders do “not distinguish between those who choose prostitution and those who seek to get out. She applied the term ‘sex trafficking’ to all prostitution.”
Look, everyone’s against sex trafficking (except the sex traffickers).  But sex trafficking is when someone is forced or coerced to engage in prostitution against their will.  Which means there is no sex trafficking going on in Lyon County’s legal brothels. None. Period. All the women who work there are there of their own free will.
In fact, working at a legal brothel is so much safer, and potentially so much more financially rewarding, that Lyon County’s brothels receive over a thousand applicants a month from women across the country – and, indeed, from around the world.  It’s also a gazillion times safer for “sex tourism” customers – who also come from around the country and around the globe.
The sex workers are tested for STD’s weekly - and there has never been a reported case of HIV in Nevada that has been traced back to a legal brothel.  On the other hand, what happens in Vegas – also where prostitution is illegal – doesn’t stay in Vegas. You take those STD’s home with you!
In addition, legal brothel customers need not worry about getting conked in the head and having their wallet stolen.  Or getting roughed up by some violent street pimp in a motel parking lot. Or getting entrapped by some sweet-talking undercover vice cop at McDonald’s or Starbucks or at the mall.
The Brothels of Lyon County have been operating legally for almost 50 years now.  They’re not hurting anybody. They’re not bothering anybody. No one is forced to work there.  No one is forced to go there.
Live and let live.  It’s the Nevada way.  Why would anyone want to fix that which isn’t broken?  Unless, of course, you WANT happy hookers in mini-skirts propositioning you for a date while waiting in line for a Big Mac.
Otherwise, vote “NO” on Lyon County Question 1.
