Trump Responds with Joke After Obama Gives Fiery Anti-Trump SpeechBy Randy DeSoto
 President Donald Trump responded to former President Barack Obama’s attack on him during a speech Friday, joking his predecessor is good for inducing sleep.In a speech at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on Friday, Obama told the students they were coming of age when “the privileged … want to keep us divided and keep us angry and keep us cynical, because it helps them maintain the status quo and keep their power and keep their privilege.”
He added that the current administration is “a symptom, not the cause” of that division. “It did not start with Donald Trump,” he said.
At a Friday campaign fundraiser in Fargo, North Dakota, Trump told the audience he had been asked by a journalist if he watched Obama’s speech given earlier in the day. “I’m sorry. I watched it but I fell asleep,” the president said. “I found he’s very good, very good for sleeping.”
Trump did directly address Obama’s claim in his remarks that the current robust economy, at least in part, is due to the steps taken during the previous administration.
Obama said that under his leadership, the country initiated the longest job creation streak on record and ensured that wealthier Americans paid their “fair share” in taxes to “help folks coming up behind them.”

Trump responded by saying Obama “was trying to take credit for this incredible thing that is happening to our country … I have to say this to President Obama, it wasn’t him.”
“If the Democrats got in with their agenda in November, two years ago, instead of having (a Gross Domestic Product) 4.2 (percent) up, I believe honestly you’d have 4.2 down. You’d be in negative numbers right now. We were heading south.”
“It was the weakest recovery … since the Great Depression,” Trump said. “It was barely a recovery, and now this is called not recovery. This is called rocket ship.”
The president pointed to the newly released August jobs report numbers, which showed hourly wages increased 2.9 percent, while unemployment remained at a low of 3.9 percent, matching a number not seen since 2000.
Trump has often touted that the nation is experiencing the lowest unemployment rates for African-Americans, Asians and Hispanics ever recorded.
The GDP grew at 1.6 percent during Obama’s final year in office in 2016. During Trump’s first year in office, the rate was 2.3 percent.
The day after Trump’s election in 2016, the Dow Jones Industrial Average spiked over 250 points, closing at a record high of 18,589.

Over the next year, it steadily increased and now sits just under 26,000.
The 31 percent rise in the stock market during Trump’s first year represents the best tally since the 1930s, when the market was recovering from the 1929 crash.
Trump’s top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, credits the economy’s strength to four very un-Obama policies his boss implemented since taking office.
 “We’ve lowered tax rates, we’ve rolled back regulations, we’ve unleashed energy, we’re moving to fix the broken world trading system,” Kudlow said.

NYT Credibility Shot. Who penned the Times hit piece? Was it the Times itself?

The New York Times published an opinionated hit piece against President Donald Trump on Wednesday, but what else is new?
The anonymously written op-ed article, titled “I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration,” was purportedly penned by a “senior official” in Trump’s administration. It asserted that a collection of other “senior officials” are part of a broader, right-leaning “resistance” inside the administration that is “thwarting” the president’s “misguided impulses” to save the country from Trump’s petty recklessness.
This, even as the supposed “senior official” author admitted that many of Trump’s policies “have already made America safer and more prosperous,” though the author insisted that was the case in spite of, and not because of, Trump himself.
Unsurprisingly, the op-ed sparked plenty of controversy and outrage on all sides and provoked conspiratorial conversations about exactly who this anonymous “senior official” is.
Using clues such as linguistic mannerisms and specific words contained within the article, guesses have ranged from Vice President Mike Pence to a number of different cabinet-level officials to other truly “senior” officials in the top tier of the administration’s several agencies and departments.
But if Trump’s White House has engaged in a “witch hunt” of its own to identify the anonymous author of The Times’ hit piece, an op-ed in Townhall suggested the hunters avert their gaze from the cabinet and top tier of the administration and search a little bit lower on the totem pole to find the potentially seditious insider.
That Townhall piece noted that The Times has a history of inflating and over-exaggerating the stature or seniority of its anonymous sources from within the government, and pointed to a rather glaring example of the practice that occurred in 2011.
At that time, the explosive growth in natural gas energy production was gaining steam in large part because of technological progress in a new method of drilling known as hydraulic fracturing. Better known as “fracking,” it was widely opposed by the left, to include the Obama administration and its liberal mouthpieces at The Times.
A writer for The Times published a series of anti-fracking articles in the paper, one of which anonymously cited emails from three “senior” insiders — an energy industry analyst, a federal analyst and a senior administration official — who were all opposed to the shale energy boom and the industry’s methods used to extract it.
A Senate investigation into the matter determined that the emails had all originated in the federal government’s Energy Information Agency, and even better than that, all the emails from the three “different” sources had actually come from just one person employed by the EIA.
On top of that, the one EIA employee was nowhere close to truly being a “senior” official of any sort. At the time he wrote the first email quoted by The Times, he was actually an intern with the EIA. He had been promoted one rung on the ladder to be an entry-level analyst when he wrote the others.
A deeper dive into that particular scandal was well documented in a 2011 article published by Energy In Depth, including a look at how harshly The Times’ own ombudsman judged the newspaper’s product.
There’s no way of knowing who The Times’ source is in this case, but history suggests the possibility that The Times has similarly exaggerated or inflated the seniority of this anti-Trump “senior official” who is part of a resistance movement inside Trump’s own administration.
The Times editors — who stated in an introduction to the op-ed that they know who the author is — have refused to reveal that individual’s identity, ostensibly to protect the writer from potential blowback or career-ending punishment.
Perhaps just as likely is that they are protecting that person’s identity because it will be quite embarrassing for them if it is revealed that the “senior” official is in actuality some Trump-hating mid-level bureaucrat or low-level intern.
That’s if the op-ed was even written by a member of the administration at all, and wasn’t just some piece of fiction cooked up by The Times itself to smear Trump. (Hard as that might be to believe, it can’t be completely ruled out, given how fake some of the media’s “fake news” stories have been proven to be.)
Keep this in mind the next time somebody tries to assert how credible The New York Times is, when in reality it’s staffed by narrative-driven, leftist hacks who care more about pushing an agenda than actually reporting the news.

Accused of leaking, lying to rebut claim he quashed Clinton probe
Former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe (Photo: Washington University in St. Louis)Federal prosecutors in Washington have impaneled a grand jury to investigate accusations that former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe misled officials over his role in unauthorized disclosures to the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post reported.
The Post, citing two people familiar with the matter, said the grand jury has summoned more than one witness.
As WND reported, McCabe has been accused of leaking the information in defense of claims that he ordered bureau investigators to “stand down” in their probe of the Clinton Foundation.
In April, Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz accused McCabe of lying under oath to government officials regarding his disclosures to reporters.
McCabe was fired March 16 by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, hours before he was to retire with a pension.
After release of the Horowitz report, the inspector general sent a criminal referral for McCabe to the U.S. Attorney’s office regarding the FBI’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation.
In addition, FBI sources and a congressional official have claimed McCabe gave a “stand-down” order regarding the opening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state through which she transmitted classified information.
The order was made shortly after the New York Times broke the news in March 2015 that Clinton used a personal email account to conduct State Department business, the sources told investigative reporter Sara Carter. The FBI Washington Field Office began probing the matter while McCabe was overseas. When he learned of the investigation, he expressed his displeasure with the agents, the sources said.
“McCabe tried to steer people off the private email investigation and that appears to be obstruction and should be investigated,” a former FBI official with knowledge of the investigation told Carter.
The source said that if the information on the stand-down order is obtained by the inspector general, Michael Horowitz, “that could bring a whole lot of other troubles to McCabe.”
McCabe also has been accused of creating a conflict of interest when the FBI investigated the Clinton email scandal while his wife received some $600,000 in political campaign donations from Clinton’s friends.
Eleven lawmakers, led by Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., have asked for an investigation of McCabe’s testimony regarding the Wall Street Journal leak.
Shutting down investigation
The IG report concluded McCabe’s disclosure about the Clinton Foundation review “violated the FBI’s and the Department’s media policy and constituted misconduct.”
In late October 2016, Horowitz found, McCabe authorized the disclosure to a reporter of an Aug. 23, 2016, telephone call between him and the then-principal associate deputy attorney general “to rebut a narrative that had been developing” following a Wall Street Journal story “that questioned McCabe’s impartiality in overseeing FBI investigations” into Clinton’s email server.
Horowitz concluded McCabe ordered the termination of the Clinton Foundation investigation due to Department of Justice pressure.
A lawyer for McCabe, Michael Bromwich, has claimed that former FBI Director James Comey did not tell the truth about the Wall Street Journal leaks in his interviews earlier this year regarding his new book.
Comey claimed he had asked the IG to look into the leaks, but Bromwich, said in a statement, “Neither Mr. Comey nor the OIG is infallible, and in this case neither of them has it right.”

The Massachusetts Democrat and progressive hero, often touted as a 2020 presidential hopeful, said Wednesday’s op-ed in the New York Times by an anonymous White House official justifies forcing out Mr. Trump under the constitutional provisions for an incapacitated president.
“If senior administration officials think the President of the United States is not able to do his job, then they should invoke the 25th Amendment,” she told CNN in an interview.
Shortly after the CNN interview, Ms. Warren sent out a fundraising letter, making the same case for removing Mr. Trump. The letter asks recipients to “chip in” for Ms. Warren’s 2018 Senate re-election campaign and to sign a petition titled “Tell the cabinet: If Trump is unfit, invoke the 25th.”
In both the CNN interview and the fundraising letter, Ms. Warren said that the anonymous sniping at Mr. Trump and some of the things the article described White House staffers as doing to keep Mr. Trump from his own worst instincts are not enough.
“The Constitution provides for a procedure whenever the Vice President and senior officials think the President can’t do his job. It does not provide that senior officials go around the President — take documents off his desk, write anonymous op-eds,” she explained to CNN. “Every one of these officials have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States. It’s time for them to do their job.”
She also dismissed concerns that using the 25th amendment to remove a president from office would precipitate a constitutional crisis via a belief among Mr Trump’s supporters that it would amount to a deep-state coup.
“Let’s be clear: We already have a constitutional crisis if the cabinet believes the President of the United States can’t do his job and then refuses to follow the rules that have been laid down in the United States Constitution. They can’t have it both ways,” she wrote in the letter.
Cabinet members “should stop hiding behind anonymous op-eds and leaking information to Bob Woodward boasting that they’re trying to save our country,” Ms. Warren continued, “and instead do what the Constitution demands they do.”
TOTAL FRAUD: Booker Claimed To Defy Rules In Releasing 'Confidential' Kavanaugh Emails. He Lied.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) went on a grandstanding rant during Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing on Thursday, saying that he would "knowingly" violate Senate rules by releasing "confidential" Kavanaugh emails.
Booker, a 2020 presidential hopeful, then released the emails, saying, "This is about the closest I'll probably ever have in my life to an, 'I am Spartacus' moment."
But, as it turns out, there is a major problem with Booker's theatrics: Booker is a liar.
"We cleared the documents last night shortly after Senator Booker’s staff asked us to," said Bill Burck, who is the George W. Bush records representative that led the review of Kavanaugh’s records. "We were surprised to learn about Senator Booker’s histrionics this morning because we had already told him he could use the documents publicly. In fact, we have said yes to every request made by the Senate Democrats to make public documents public."

Even the liberal mainstream media did not let pro-abortion U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein get away with a “dramatically exaggerated” comment about back-alley abortion deaths.
The California Democrat made the comment Wednesday during the confirmation hearing on U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Speaking about abortion, Feinstein falsely claimed between “200,000 and 1.2 million” women died from illegal abortions prior to Roe v. Wade.
“Deaths from illegal abortions in this country ran between 200,000 and 1.2 million … so, a lot of women died in that period,” Feinstein claimed. “I don’t want to go back to those death tolls in this country.”
LifeNews quickly fact-checked Feinstein’s comments. But surprisingly at least two mainstream media outlets also called out her error.
The Associated Press reports Feinstein “vastly overstated” the number of women who died in illegal abortions prior to Roe v. Wade, while USA Today described her comment as “dramatically exaggerated.”
Both cited research from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute to refute her claim:
The Guttmacher Institute, which supports abortion rights, cites estimates in a 2003 report that 200,000 to 1.2 million illegal abortions were performed in the 1950s and 1960s in the U.S. The report says the number of deaths from illegal abortion dropped from just under 1,700 in 1940 to just over 300 by 1950 and a little under 200 by 1965. The Supreme Court established a constitutional right to abortion in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
Feinstein spokeswoman Ashley Schapitl explained the error in a comment to USA Today, saying, “She meant to cite just the number of illegal procedures, not deaths.”
Widely-regarded abortion activists with Planned Parenthood and NARAL also have said the number of back-alley abortion deaths were small.
In 1960, Dr. Mary Calderone, the medical director of Planned Parenthood, wrote in the American Journal of Public Health:
“… about 90 percent of all illegal abortions are presently being done by physicians…Whatever trouble arises usually arises from self-induced abortions, which comprise approximately 8 percent, or with the very small percentage that go to some kind of non-medical abortionist…So remember…abortion, whether therapeutic or illegal, is in the main no longer dangerous, because it is being done well by physicians.”
Dr. Bernard Nathanson, a former abortionist and co-founder of NARAL, also later admitted that their “statistics” about back alley abortions were false.
Nathanson said his organization often claimed between 5,000 and 10,000 women died every year from dangerous, back alley abortions and argued that legalizing abortions would protect women.
He wrote: “I confess that I knew that the figures were totally false and I suppose that others did too if they stopped to think of it. But in the ‘morality’ of our revolution, it was a useful figure, widely accepted … The overriding concern was to get the laws eliminated, and anything within reason that had to be done was permissible.”
Actual government statistic prior to the Roe decision show nowhere near 1.2 million women (or even 200,000) died in abortions. A 1972 Center for Disease Control report noted the maternal death rate from abortions was 39 in the United States, the year prior to Roe.
And legalizing Roe hasn’t made it safer. CDC reports indicate women still die from legal, supposedly “safe” abortions. As of 2008, the CDC reported more than 400 women died from legal abortions in the United States, including 12 that year. The most recent annual report from the CDC says four women died from abortion complications in 2013.
Just as important, though, is the fact that an abortion is never a safe procedure. Its very purpose is to kill a unique, living unborn baby, and about 60 million of them have been killed in abortions since Roe.

I consider him a friend, and my wife has worked for him on various projects. I like Ben Sasse, but I like Sasse in part because of moments like this — moments when he puts on what is best described as a short master class in civics and the role of the judiciary in the American constitutional republic. Sasse describes the “elegant and fair process” the Founders created, a system in which Congress makes law, the executive humbly enforces the law, and the judiciary applies “written laws to facts and cases that are actually before it.” And in this process the key question is “not what did Brett Kavanaugh think eleven years ago on some policy matter.
The question before us is whether or not he has the temperament and the character to take his policy views and political preferences and put them in a box marked ‘irrelevant’ and set it aside every morning when he puts on the black robe.”
It’s unfortunate that clips like this tend to only go viral within an already-engaged political subculture (which, sadly, needs this wisdom as badly as the rest of America). An enormous amount of modern political dysfunction can be traced to the willful, generations-long, bipartisan inversion of our constitutional structure — where the political branch that was intended to be the most powerful (Congress) is subordinated to both the executive and the judiciary.
As I’ve written before, the result is a political system where your vote is most consequential once every four years (if you live in a swing state, that is) while your once-every-two-years ballot for Congress is typically cast for a glorified pundit.
Multiple members of the House and Senate recognize this problem (Senator Sasse is obviously one of them), but they lack numbers. So until they have the legislative strength to restore the Founders’ vision, they must educate — and they must vote for judges who understand their proper, limited role in the constitutional structure.
Today, Senator Sasse conducted the necessary educational session. Soon enough, I expect he’ll vote for Judge Kavanaugh in the hope and expectation that Kavanaugh fully understands his constitutional obligations and, crucially, limitations.
If and when Kavanaugh is confirmed, look for him to nudge the Supreme Court back towards its proper, more-limited function.
Republicans may not always be happy with the decisions from a less-political court, but the partisan needs of the moment are far less important than dealing with the permanent temptation to create an imperial judiciary. Good for Senator Sasse to remind us all of the Supreme Court’s proper place.
Anti-Trump Senator Caught In Dirty Lie
Senator Kamala Harris who is on the Senate Judiciary Committee and has aspirations of running for president in 2020 has been caught in a big-time lie during her questioning of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Harris claimed that Kavanaugh spoke with Trump's law firm about Mueller, which of course was a lie.

On Wednesday, Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) attempted to grab the 2020 Democratic presidential limelight by launching into an attack on Judge Brett Kavanaugh, President Trump’s latest pick for the Supreme Court. She essentially accused Kavanaugh of stonewalling on whether he had spoken with President Trump’s law firm about the Robert Mueller investigation. Kavanaugh correctly said he didn’t know what she was talking about, and also said he didn’t know every lawyer at Kasowitz Benson Torres – a law firm with nearly 300 attorneys. That didn’t stop Harris, who grandstanded for nearly 10 minutes, to the wild applause of the media. The video has been viewed tens of millions of times on Twitter.
There’s only one problem: Harris had no evidence whatsoever that Kavanaugh had spoken with anyone at Kasowitz. And, in fact, Kasowitz stated today that Kavanaugh had not spoken with anyone at his law firm about Mueller.
So, what was Harris’ response to all of this?

So no, she has no evidence. But that didn’t stop her from leveling the accusation, to the celebration of the press. This makes Harris one of two major liars in the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing – the other being Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) who claimed he had released classified documents at peril of life and limb (he didn’t) and that those documents contained bombshells (they didn’t)

By being the inflammatory, “cutting edge” brand that they believe to be, Nike has made a name for themselves with some fairly controversial subjects; the latest being their brand new campaign featuring out of work footballer Colin Kaepernick whose polarizing views on the police and “racial injustice” have touched off a fierce debate in America.
In the immediate aftermath of their announcement regarding the anthem-kneeler’s new job, stocks for the company tanked. Now, just days later, the company is getting even worse news.
A poll from Morning Consult shows devastating results for Nike’s brand favorability, in the days after making Colin Kaepernick the face of their new ad campaign.
According to the poll via Axios, Nike’s numbers “dropped 34 points from a net +69 favorable impression (76% favorable, 7% unfavorable) among consumers to a net +35 favorable impression (60% favorable, 24% unfavorable).”
These numbers are nothing short of devastating for Nike, and with no other news worthy of note, there’s no explanation for the sudden decline other than the company’s commitment to Kaepernick.
This comes as an increasing number of Americans have grown weary of the megalithic corporation’s antics when it comes to this sort of thing.
Nike’s main currency is controversy, and they are in no way in danger of losing any money by riding the wave of Kaepernick-anger into the popular culture once again. The American people have become aware of this reality, and the cynicism that we have toward this stunt can be seen in the memes that have been spawned in the wake of the sneaker company’s decision.
My personal favorite comes to us as a mashup between It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the Nike marketing reality, although I’m not sure Kaepernick qualifies for status as a “civil rights leader” based on his hatred of police:
