A Banana Republic? Since When is it OK to Spy on Political Opponents?
By Onan Coca
There are some very scary questions being brought up by the ongoing investigations into the 2016 campaign.
Perhaps the most worrisome one has to do with whether or not leaders in the intelligence community were using their offices to “stack the deck” against the GOP candidates (specifically Donald Trump) and to make a Hillary Clinton victory more likely.
All of the possibilities that seemed so far-fetched the first time President Trump mentioned that his campaign had been “wiretapped,” now seem terrifyingly possible.
.@MariaBartiromo: "It sounds like either President Obama or @HillaryClinton were sort of masterminding all of this."
We now know that the FBI, the CIA, and the DOJ had been paying undue attention to the activities of many members of the Trump campaign.
We know that they began their investigations with little or no reason to, and that they continued them on the basis of unverified and salacious stories from suspect sources (like the Steele Dossier).
We know that they withheld relevant, and important facts to obtain several FISA warrants (which they would not have obtained had they been honest with the judge).
We know that most of the key leaders in the intelligence community have since been caught in lies about this investigation (that is DNI James Clapper, CIA chief John Brennan, and FBI Director James Comey as well as his underlings Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, and Lisa Page).
Finally, we know that the FBI had an informer (or spy) within the Trump campaign feeding them real time information.
But the most important thing we know – even after more than 2 years of investigating and using extremely questionable, and perhaps illegal methods, the intelligence community still hasn’t found a single shred of evidence to support their claims of wrongdoing.
American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp rightly argued over the weekend that the American people deserve to know what the intelligence community was doing getting involved with the 2016 election.
The American government and governments around this world interfere in elections. The American government interferes in elections.
There’s a whole new level of espionage which happens online. I think the American people do need to have complete transparency in what the threats are against us, but also what we do.
The American people need to know what its own intelligence agencies did in this campaign, people can say it’s spying, it’s not spying. It’s disgusting. I don’t care whose campaign this was, help me out here.
We shouldn’t be using the government in a presidential campaign. We shouldn’t be using the agencies to try to pick a one — pick a winner or a loser.
Matt Schlapp: The American People Need To Know What U.S. Intel Agencies Did During 2016 Election
Conservative talk radio host Mark Levin was even more animated about the discovery of an FBI mole in the Trump campaign. During an appearance on Fox News’ Sean Hannity show, Levin wondered aloud when the United States of America had devolved into a Banana Republic?
Here’s what Levin had to say:
Mark Levin: The Mueller investigation oddly enough, Sean, has disclosed has revealed that the greatest perpetrator of against the American people was the federal government. The greatest perpetrator against the American people was the federal government, was the FBI, the CIA national intelligence director, and this is a very…
Of course not. And I wanted to take this to the next level. Because the president of the United States will not be invited and if he is, he’ll take it to the Supreme Court and he’ll win.
All that said now, we cannot allow this to happen again. We saw our federal government used by the prior administration by the head of the CIA, by the head of the FBI, by the head of national intelligence and many, many others used to try and destroy the candidacy of an opposition candidate in another party Donald Trump in the Republican Party.
That is, the president’s administration the existing administration interfering in the elections we’ve never seen anything like this before in American history.
So here’s what we need to do. We now know that the Obama administration spy. Spy. Look, it’s the Obama administration, he’s the president. The buck stops at his desk. He may be playing around with his library in Chicago and gone off and writing a phony book and everything. He is to be held responsible and his surrogates are to be held responsible.
The FISA court failed us. The FISA court failed us. We have these national security letters that are supposed to be used in extreme circumstances being used, we have a cabal of FBI agents who took it upon themselves to investigate a candidate and his campaign, and then we have of course actual spies one or more in the Trump campaign.
What the hell is this? The Soviet Union, Venezuela? It’s the United States of America. So let me say this. Once Mr. Mueller, Mr. Mueller turns over his report to Mr. Rosenstein the president of the United States should do two things. He should take his favorite United States attorney not favorite because they’re pals but the most professional the most competent most aggressive he can and give him an assignment.
I don’t care what Jeff Sessions does. He’s the president and tell him, I want you to investigate the activities that took place in this election, let the chips fall where they may. The interference in this election by the FBI, the CIA, the national intelligence I want to know what Brennan did, I want to know what Clapper did. I want to know what Comey did not because I’m going to punish them. You’ll make determinations about this…
But something — something is terribly wrong. More, I also would tell him and I’ve said this before myself. We need to fix this. We cannot have another election where the federal government our United States government is interfering with an election.
And so what I think the president needs to do is appoint a commission of five or seven people I told you this on your show a long time ago, top notch men from prior administration and women and appoint them and say, fix the FBI at the top, fix the CIA, fix the intelligence agencies, we cannot allow this to happen to another president of the United States.
To hell with — sorry, Jeff. With Jeff Sessions and all these other people the president should take the responsibility themselves…
You’re talking about — you’re talking about spies in the Trump administration. You’re talking about a failed FISA court. This is incredible stuff.
Sean Hannity: Mark, you talk about the spies, you talk it wasn’t just one FISA court judge that was given phony information that was never verified, never corroborated, never were they told that Hillary bought and paid for this information with a foreign agent.
Where are the — where’s Congress won’t Congress bring these FISA judges before them and demand to know how they feel about being lied to.
Mark Levin: I’ll tell you why. I’ll tell you why. Because unlike the Democrats, the Republicans scatter like rats. They scatter…
You have certain Republicans who thronged with the Democrats because they want to destroy this president. They can’t get over the fact that he got elected and they can’t get over the fact the American people didn’t follow them. The American people don’t even know who they are.
But I want to emphasize something here so your guest in the future can repeat what I’m going to say, which this is. We need an accounting of what Mr. Brennan did and what Mr. Clapper did and what Mr. Book salesman Comey did. We need an accounting of what Susan Rice did of what Samantha Powers did. We haven’t even gotten to the unmasking stuff yet…
Not because we want to get even. Because we need an accounting. People need to be held to account, number one.
WOW: Released Emails Show Obama Officials Coordinated To Set-Up President Trump
On Monday, the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs released a new batch of emails that appear to show top brass in the Obama administration coordinated with CNN to run a hit piece on President-elect Donald Trump.
The emails were released by Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., and show that fired FBI Director James Comey, fired Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper colluded with CNN to run a story on the dossier.
The damaging report was aimed at spreading the anti-Trump dossier throughout the media and laying the foundation for the Trump-Russia collusion theories.
The emails also show the Obama-era officials used coded language when referring to the dossier, a clear attempt to cover their tracks.
Here’s the timeline of events and communications, which are outlined in the committee’s letter:
1. January 6, 2017, 9:44 a.m. FBI Chief of Staff Jim sent an email to unspecified recipients stating, “the director is coming into HQ briefly now for an update from the sensitive matter team.”
2. January 6, 2017, afternoon. Director Comey met with President-elect Trump.
3. January 7, 2017. Director Comey memorialized his discussion with President-elect Trump via an email to senior FBI leadership. Director Comey wrote, “I said there was something that Clapper wanted me to speak to PE [President Elect] about alone or in a very small group.” Director Comey wrote, “I then executed the sessions exactly as I had planned,” and “I said media like CNN had them and were looking for a news hook.”
4. January 8, 2017, 12:08 p.m. Then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe sent an email to senior FBI leadership with the subject line “Flood is coming.” Mr. McCabe wrote, “CNN is close to going forward with the sensitive story… The trigger for them [CNN] is they know the material was discussed in the brief and presented in an attachment.”
5. January 8, 2017, 12:55 p.m. Mr. McCabe emailed then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates and then-Principal Deputy Attorney General Matthew Axelrod with the subject line “News.” Mr. McCabe wrote, “Just an FYI, and as expected, it seems CNN is close to running a story about the sensitive reporting.”
On Jan. 10, 2017, just two days later, CNN published its story about the dossier despite none of the salacious and disgusting claims in the dossier being verified.
The Federalist’s Sean Davis writes:
To date, there is no public evidence that the FBI ever investigated the leaks to media about the briefing between Trump and Comey. When asked in a recent interview by Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier, Comey scoffed at the idea that the FBI would even need to investigate the leak of a secret briefing with the incoming president.
McCabe then e-mailed Sally Yates and her deputy at DOJ, "Just as an FYI, and as expected, it seems CNN is close to running a story about the sensitive reporting." How did McCabe come to know so much about CNN's internal reporting plans? https://t.co/WZULfhtAyR

Clapper abruptly directing Comey to meet with Trump to brief him on the dossier and the leaks to CNN is what ignited the Russia collusion theories.
When Comey briefed Trump on the dossier, it gave the collusion theories validity, meaning the Intelligence Community — led by Obama officials — could claim they were all on the “same page” and wanted to spread the dossier.
When Clapper, Comey, and McCabe fed information to CNN about the dossier, they were laying the groundwork for the Russia hysteria that dominates the media’s narrative today.
How Do We Know They Were Setting Up Trump?
Comey wrote in his memos that he informed Trump he was not under any criminal investigation. Yet, Comey has refused to this day to admit that publicly.
Why won’t he admit to the public and media that he told Trump in private, on multiple occasions, that he was not under investigation?
Comey’s refusal to tell the public that Trump was not under investigation led to Trump firing him.
Rather than being honest with the American people and media, Comey refused to admit what he was telling Trump and instead colluded with Clapper, McCabe, and CNN to kick-off the Trump-Russia collusion theories.

Former President Carter Gives Praise To Trump
TTN Staff
In a surprising revelation Tuesday, former President Jimmy Carter gave President Trump some major praise. Indicating that Trump would, in fact, deserve the peace prize if he succeeds with North Korea.
Former President Jimmy Carter said he would endorse a Nobel Peace Prize for President Trump Tuesday if all goes well with North Korean peace talks.
“If President Trump is successful in getting a peace treaty that is acceptable to both sides with North Korea, I think he certainly ought to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize,” Carter told Politico.
Carter took aim at Trump’s morals and truthfulness, saying, “I’m not here to criticize, but I think that, you know, telling the truth is one of the basic moral values that’s important,” and added, “obeying the law is an oath that all of us take before we assume public office.”
Carter also said that the U.S. has withheld potentially helpful aid from North Koreans, especially in aiding them with food supplies.
“If they’re under constant belief that the United States wants to attack them, even using nuclear weapons — which many Democrats and Republican leaders in our country have mentioned as a possibility,” Carter said, “and that we are destroying their economy, and they know that they’re starving to death primarily because the United States withholds food aid, for instance, just giving them surplus food that we can’t ever use, then I can understand how they feel.”
The summit between Trump and Kim Jong Un has been up in the air as of late. But South Korea has said they are confident it will happen next month.
Ex-Trump Aide Comes Forward… Says There’s Second Spy, Second Intel Agency

Ex-Trump Aide Comes Forward… Says There’s Second Spy, Second Intel Agency
One of President Donald Trump’s most explosive claims about the 2016 election — one that was dismissed out of hand until recently — was that his campaign was the subject of extensive surveillance.
Now, a former Trump aide is saying something even more explosive: There wasn’t just a mole inside the Trump campaign, there was a second spy and intelligence agency.
Michael Caputo is pretty much the definition of a political lifer. A media strategist, he worked with Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and various other Republicans. After the fall of the Soviet Union, he began doing work with the Russians.
This didn’t get the attention of too many people until he started working for Trump. Much like Carter Page, the low-level Trump campaign staffer whose ties to Russia became the subject of a million conspiracy theories, Caputo’s ties to the Russians became of intense interest to the overzealous FBI people charged with finding some sort of evidence that Trump was the Siberian Candidate.
Caputo appeared on Fox News just hours after Axios reported “President Trump’s top trade adviser, Peter Navarro, recommended appointing Stefan Halper, an academic and suspected FBI informant on the Trump campaign, to a senior role in the Trump administration.”
That’s bad. According to Caputo, things were even worse.
“Let me tell you something that I know for a fact, this informant, this person that they planted, that they tried to plant into the campaign and even into the administration, if you believe Axios — he’s not the only person that came into the campaign!” Caputo said.
“And the FBI is not the only Obama agency who came into the campaign,” he added.
“I know because they came at me. And I’m looking for clearance from my attorney to reveal this to the public. This is just the beginning and I’ll tell you, when we finally find out the truth about this, Director Clapper and the rest of them are gonna be wearing some orange suits.”
Orange suits are an unlikely outcome, but Caputo’s statement indicates that Obama-era surveillance of the Trump campaign — once dismissed as tin-foil-hattery — might actually be very real.
Of course, Caputo may have a reason to prevaricate about such things. Kimberley Strassel doesn’t. She’s the Wall Street Journal writer whose reporting has indicated that she believes there was an FBI mole inside the campaign.
“The Bureau already has some explaining to do. Thanks to the Washington Post’s unnamed law-enforcement leakers, we know Mr. Nunes’s request deals with a ‘top secret intelligence source’ of the FBI and CIA, who is a U.S. citizen and who was involved in the Russia collusion probe,” she wrote in an article earlier this month.
“When government agencies refer to sources, they mean people who appear to be average citizens but use their profession or contacts to spy for the agency. Ergo, we might take this to mean that the FBI secretly had a person on the payroll who used his or her non-FBI credentials to interact in some capacity with the Trump campaign.
“This would amount to spying, and it is hugely disconcerting,” she added. “It would also be a major escalation from the electronic surveillance we already knew about, which was bad enough.”
During and after the campaign, Trump’s claims that he was surveilled (and that the surveillance was politically-motivated) were dismissed as baseless fantasies, yet another sign this was an unbalanced person who shouldn’t be normalized or believed.
And yet, here we are, weeks away from the inspector general’s report on the Clinton investigation, which doesn’t sound like it’s going to simply be the pro forma postmortem it normally would be, considering it involved a losing campaign. The report is expected to detail a whole host of tactics by the “deep state” that could easily be construed as being in service of the Clinton campaign and to the detriment of the Trump campaign.
If Caputo is telling the truth, this means there’s a whole host of issues here. Who was involved? The DOJ and FBI, obviously, but the CIA too? Other agencies under the aegis of the ODNI?
I can predict just one thing: Things are about to get very interesting for everyone who called Trump crazy when he talked about surveillance.
BOOM: General Flynn’s Son, Michael Flynn Jr, Just BLASTED Massive Warning Shots At The Deep State
With twelve words, the son of former Trump National Security Advisor General Flynn, just struck deep into Deep State.
“You’re all going down. You know who you are. Mark my word….” Michael Flynn Jr tweeted on Monday afternoon.
You’re all going down. You know who you are. Mark my word….
— 🇺🇸MFLYNNJR🇺🇸 (@mflynnJR) May 21, 2018
Recent reports exposed Comey and McCabe for believing General Flynn didn’t lie when investigated by the FBI.
According to The Hill:
The unredacted portion of the report, written by Republicans on the panel, details testimony from former FBI Director James Comey and his then-deputy, Andrew McCabe. The report says McCabe, in particular, testified that the two agents who interviewed Flynn “didn’t think he was lying.”
Despite the agents’ initial impressions, McCabe reportedly testified that officials found that Flynn’s statements to investigators were “inconsistent” with their “understanding of the conversation that he had actually had with the ambassador.”
Flynn Jr.’s tweets come on the same day we learned about a potential second special counsel into the misconduct at the FBI.
As we reported earlier at I Love My Freedom:
On Tuesday, Congressional Republicans intend to introduce a resolution which calls for a second special counsel for the misconduct at the FBI and DOJ.
The chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, Rep. Mark Meadows, as well as Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Ron DeSantis are backing the bombshell 12-page resolution.
A second special counsel will be asked to look into abuses of the FISA court, how the Hillary Clinton email investigation ended, and how the Trump-Russia investigation progressed through the appointment of Robert Mueller.
It’s only getting more intense in American politics. We’ll keep you updated with all the latest stories at I Love My Freedom.

Boy Scouts to require condoms at upcoming World Jamboree

The Boy Scouts will reportedly require the provision of condoms at the upcoming World Scout Jamboree.
The World Organization of Scouting Movement handbook requires the host organization to “ensure that condoms are readily and easily accessible for all participants and [International Service Team staff] at a number of locations on the site.”
The 2019 World Scout Jamboree will be held in West Virginia from July 21 to Aug. 1. The theme is “Unlock a New World.”
The Boy Scouts did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
News of the condom requirement comes months after the Boy Scouts announced it would allow girls to become scouts.
Last year, the scouting organization also changed its policy to permit membership on the basis of gender identity, meaning girls who identified as boys could become scouts.
And in 2015 the Boy Scouts ended its blanket ban on openly gay troop leaders.
John Stemberger, chairman of the board of Trail Life USA, an alternative scouting organization, said it is “not clear how far down the rabbit hole the Boy Scouts will continue to fall.”
“All of this should be deeply disturbing to the churches that are chartering Boy Scout Troops,” Mr. Stemberger said in a statement posted to the Florida Family Policy Council website. “These policies present a clear youth protection problem that the BSA absolutely refuses to recognize. The fact that they are requiring that condoms be ‘readily accessible’ and are communicating this to everyone — including youth participants — shows that the BSA is both anticipating and facilitating sexual conduct between minors at this event. These policies are both outrageous and completely irresponsible.”
Lib Says Trumpers Are Helpless, So James Woods Reminds What They Did to ‘Old Hag’ Hillary
BY BEN MARQUIS
Some liberals are so consumed by their hatred for President Donald Trump that they appear utterly incapable of recognizing the reality of the world around them.
One of those realities often ignored or overlooked by those afflicted with “Trump Derangement Syndrome” is the fact the president’s legion of supporters comprise a segment of the voting population that is significant enough as to spark political change, as evidenced by the 2016 election.
Enter Andy Lassner, executive producer of “The Ellen Show” and one such liberal who is ignorant of the political power wielded by Trump supporters. Lassner revealed his ignorance in a disparaging and explicit tweet against those who voted for and support the president.
Following a Sunday morning tweet-storm from Trump, Lassner posted a tweet of his own.
“I love how Trump takes to twitter to try and rile up his followers,” Lassner wrote. “Like a bunch of nameless/faceless people with MAGA and PATRIOT hashtags in their bios are going to do a f—ing thing.”
To be sure, plenty of those “nameless/faceless people” who support Trump responded to the tweet in hilarious fashion, but perhaps the best reply that summed up Lassner’s elitist attitude and ignorance toward Trump supporters came from none other than Hollywood conservative and ruthlessly humorous Twitter insulter James Woods.
“We put your old, drunken hag back on the sidewalk where she belongs instead of in the White House where in fact President Trump is at this very moment,” Woods said in response to Lassner.

Woods made it abundantly clear that, yes, in fact, Trump’s “helpless” followers are quite capable of doing something, namely taking to the polls in large enough numbers so as to keep the self-entitled progressive queen out of office in November 2016.
Indeed, tens of millions of “helpless” Trump supporters — who’ve grown exceptionally tired of leftist demagogues who talk down to them or say one thing and do another — decided en masse to go a different route this time, and quite obviously succeeded in doing so.
You would have thought that liberals would have learned the lesson that insulting a significant portion of the electorate as backward and politically impotent doesn’t work against Trump’s supporters, what with the magnificent manner in which Clinton’s “deplorables” insult backfired on her.
Yet the insults from arrogant and elitist leftists continue to fly with a fury that actually only works to further embolden and entrench the president’s supporters in their position.
As for the insulting language thrown back at liberals and Clinton by conservatives like Woods, while not at all necessary in the effort to differentiate ourselves from where liberals stand, it is nevertheless an understandable response to the constant insults heaped upon us for years by the aforementioned arrogant elitist liberals.
On a somewhat separate but related note, as many commenters noted on Lassner’s and Woods’ tweets, Trump doesn’t have to “try” to rile up his base with his tweets, as his base already is “riled” and has been for quite some time.
In all truthfulness, Trump merely came along and recognized the riled-up nature of a large portion of American voters who’d been overlooked and talked down to. He took stock of what had them so riled up and then spoke directly to those issues.
He promised to address them if elected and, thus far, has made good and kept his word on many of those vows, a fact also ignored or downplayed by arrogant liberals lost in their anti-Trump hatred.
Maybe in time the liberals will recognize and accept that, but until then, we’ll have to rely on folks like Woods to remind them of such on Twitter in his bitingly funny way.
Maxine Waters Under Ethical Scrutiny, Transferring $100K to Daughter from Campaign Funds
By Randy DeSoto
Democrat California Congresswoman Maxine Waters is slated to pay her daughter over $100,000 in campaign funds this election cycle, drawing scrutiny from multiple media outlets.
The Daily Caller News Foundation reported $42,862 has already been paid to Karen Waters since the beginning of 2017 based on Federal Election Commission filings, while another $65,000 is listed as yet to be paid for “professional services” working on a “slate mailer.”
According to The Washington Free Beacon, the younger Waters had collected approximately $650,000 as of April for running the slate mail operation for her mother over multiple election cycles.
That figure will top over $750,000 by the end of this cycle.
The Citizens for Waters slate mailers contain a list of all the candidates the congresswoman is endorsing.
“The mailers are sent to nearly 200,000 residents in South Central Los Angeles, an area where Waters holds considerable clout,” The Beacon reported.
“The mailers contain an ‘official sample ballot’ and brief quotes from Waters about the candidates and measures that she supports,” the news outlet added.
During the 2016 election cycle, Citizens for Waters collected close to $300,000 from more than 20 payments to the campaign.
Karen Waters was paid $65,287 during that cycle to run the slate mailer operation.
In 2016, California Democrat Sen. Kamala Harris contributed $30,000 to Waters’ campaign to appear in the endorsement mailers.
In 2010, she paid $28,000, according to The Beacon, for the same service when she was a candidate for California’s attorney general.
The liberal watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington named Waters one of the “most corrupt” members of Congress in 2011.
“In the midst of a national financial catastrophe (following the 2008 stock market crash), Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) used her position as a senior member of Congress and member of the House Financial Services Committee to prevail upon Treasury officials to meet with OneUnited Bank,” CREW explained. “She never disclosed that her husband held stock in the bank.”
According to CREW, her husband had also previously served on the board in what is billed as “America’s largest black owned bank.” The Washington Examiner reported the bank received $12 million in bailout funds from the federal government.
After a multi-year investigation, the House Ethics Committee ruled Waters did not technically break any rules, but brought to light the congresswoman’s questionable practice of making her grandson, Mikael Moore, her chief of staff.
Omar Navarro, Waters’ 2018 Republican challenger, dinged his rival for riding in Saturday’s Armed Forces parade in Torrance in a BMW convertible and living in a mansion outside of the 43rd congressional district she represents, which is located on the south side of Los Angeles.
“Where is Maxine Waters going?” he tweeted. “Maybe #HancockPark to the 4.3 Million Dollar Mega home outside the district.”
Devastating 2016 Strzok Text Found: Obama’s WH is Running Trump Investigation
Devastating 2016 Strzok Text Found: Obama’s WH is Running Trump Investigation
For more than a year, the Democrat-aligned media has denied and scoffed at allegations that elements within the Obama administration had spied upon the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.
That all changed recently with the leaked admission of an “informant” who’d been querying marginal Trump campaign associates for information about supposed connections to Russia on behalf of former President Barack Obama’s FBI.
That admission, combined with the voluminous ream of text messages between FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI lawyer Lisa Page that had previously been released, have made it abundantly clear that Obama’s FBI was indeed running a counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign, one that was directed from the highest levels.
National Review’s Andrew McCarthy recently shared what he had gleaned after a deep dive into the many texts between Strzok and Page, with a particular focus around the time the investigation into Trump’s campaign was initially opened.
McCarthy’s main takeaway was that the Department of Justice had redacted the juiciest and most revealing parts of those texts, specifically the names of high-ranking officials outside of the FBI who were involved in the investigation, among other bits of information potentially damning for the Obama administration.
There was one text in particular from Strzok that McCarthy highlighted that former Bush White House press secretary Ari Fleischer felt should have garnered even more attention than it did, a message that appeared to indicate the involvement of the Obama White House in running the entire operation.

Seems to me the headline here should have been the quote cited by Peter Strzok, attributed to a redacted source, saying “The White House is running this”, referring in August 2016 to the opening of the Trump counter-intelligence investigation. https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/05/strzok-page-texts-trump-russia-investigation-origins/ …
The Strzok-Page Texts and the Origins of the Trump-Russia Investigation
Peter Strzok and Lisa Page’s texts shine a highly redacted light on how the Trump-Russia investigation began.

“Seems to me the headline here should have been the quote cited by Peter Strzok, attributed to a redacted source, saying ‘The White House is running this’, referring in August 2016 to the opening of the Trump counterintelligence investigation,” Fleischer said in tweet posted Sunday.
That message from Strzok to Page was in regard to a high-level meeting — which included “agency people,” as in CIA officials— held Aug. 5, 2016 following his return from a trip to London where he presumably interviewed the FBI’s informant, though those particular details were redacted.
The message from Strzok read: “And hi. Went well, best we could have expected. Other than (REDACTED) quote: ‘the White House is running this.’ My answer, ‘well, maybe for you they are.’ And of course, I was planning on telling this guy, thanks for coming, we’ve got an hour, but with Bill (Priestap) there, I’ve got no control.”
Bill Priestap was the assistant director of counterintelligence, and Strzok’s immediate superior in the FBI hierarchy.
Page replied: “Yeah, whatever (re the WH comment). We’ve got the emails that say otherwise.”
Two immediate questions arise from that exchange — who was the redacted official who stated the “White House is running this” in regard to the counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign, and what exactly is contained in the emails referenced by Page “that say otherwise”?
If Congress hasn’t already demanded to know the answers to those questions, they better get on it soon. Odds are that redacted individual to whom the quote is attributed is an incredibly high-level official with some measure of authority whose identity, if revealed, would prove devastating to the entire Trump/Russia collusion investigation narrative.
McCarthy also wants to know what names and information are hidden behind the many redactions within the released texts, and wondered if it was classified or simply embarrassing to the DOJ/FBI/Obama administration if released.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if the same FBI that cleared former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the unauthorized transmission of classified material were themselves transmitting classified materials through text messages in an unauthorized manner.
House votes to ease post-crisis bank rules in victory for Trump
By Pete Schroeder
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives passed on Tuesday bipartisan legislation that would ease bank rules introduced in the wake of the 2007-2009 financial crisis, giving President Donald Trump a major legislative victory.
Tuesday's vote rolls back some of the 2010 Dodd-Frank rules that restricted operations by smaller banks and community lenders and keeps the Republican president's campaign promise to try to spur more economic growth by cutting regulation.
The bill, which was approved by the Senate in March, marks the first significant rewrite of U.S. financial rules introduced following the crisis, which saw Wall Street lenders bailed out to the tune of $700 billion.
Republican critics say Dodd-Frank went too far and curbs banks’ ability to lend, while many Democrats say it provides critical protections for consumers and taxpayers.
The bill, approved 258-159, raises the threshold at which banks are considered systemically risky and subject to stricter oversight to $250 billion from $50 billion. It also eases trading, lending and capital rules for banks with less than $10 billion in assets.
It does not, however, weaken the top U.S. consumer watchdog created by Dodd-Frank that has been consistently attacked by Republicans who say it oversteps its mandate.
But the bill does offer a handful of niche provisions that would help some larger banks, such as allowing custody banks like BNY Mellon and State Street Corp to exempt the customer deposits they place with central banks from a stringent capital calculation requirement.
It also offers more favorable treatment for municipal bonds, a measure that analysts say is likely to help Citigroup Inc's bond-trading business.
But backers of the bill stress that the core Dodd Frank provisions that aimed to shore up the financial system and make banks less risky, remain untouched by this legislation.
The bill also does not alter the so-called "Volcker Rule" banning Wall Street banks from making risky bets with their own money, or limit the ability of regulators to apply stricter rules to large institutions they deem critical to the financial system.
