Tucker: If Republicans betray Americans on immigration, “they’re toast”

Tucker: If Republicans betray Americans on immigration, “they’re toast”Gage Skidmore / CCL
Fox News host Tucker Carlson has a message for congressional Republicans who are considering returning to their old ways and compromising on an issue upon which their voters are tired of compromise. If the GOP folds on immigration reform, promised Carlson, they can say goodbye to support from American voters — along with their majority in the House and Senate.

Do or die

If Republicans betray voters on immigration,” Carlson promised, “they’re toast.”
Watch the Fox News star’s analysis below:
Republican lawmakers are on a clock that expires on March 5 for DACA reform. DACA. (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), the Obama-era executive action protecting hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who were brought to America as children, is set to expire then. After ordering a halt to future DACA applications, President Donald Trump punted the politically corrosive issue for Congress to decide before the impending March sunset.
Carlson believes that negotiating a deal save DACA recipients from deportation is “reasonable,” but he believes any compromise should be accompanied by “real and long-term immigration reforms.”
Carlson made the case for a meaningful political settlement during a Friday night airing of “Tucker Carlson Tonight:”
America deserves real borders and policies that put American interests first, instead of an endless cycle of amnesty coupled with empty promises of future border enforcement at some time.

The corporate lobby

Carlson’s statement targets the 34 House Republicans who penned a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan demanding a legislative replacement for DACA. According to this letter, the group of moderate conservatives will kick the can down the road and refuse to make larger immigration reform a prerequisite for DACA replacement. They wrote:

We all agree that our border must be enforced … and our broken immigration system reformed, but in this moment we must address the urgent matter before us in a balanced approach that does not harm valuable sectors of our economy nor the lives of these hard-working young people.

Immigration reform was a key campaign promise of the Trump administration, and Carlson argues that the vast majority of Americans demand significant immigration reform from their elected officials. “Restricting immigration is a lot more popular, for example, than defunding Planned Parenthood or cutting taxes for the wealthy or cracking down on marijuana [or] bombing distant countries,” the Fox News anchor said.

To illustrate his point, Carlson points to recent polls from Numbers USA which indicate that a supermajority of Americans agree with the president’s position on immigration. Americans want to see an end to controversial chain migration and the diversity lottery programs, while supporting measures that require employers to use employment verifications systems like E-Verify.

The reluctance of some Republicans to pair a DACA fix with comprehensive immigration reform is tied to their relationship with business lobbyists who wish to maintain their access to cheap foreign labor. Their strategy is to concede minor concessions to the Trump administration in exchange for greater access to the pool of unskilled immigrant workers who come to the U.S. in droves every year.

Despite their economically stimulating tax bill, Republicans cannot afford to lose on comprehensive immigration reform — not after losing the healthcare reform battle in the Senate.

CIA's Pompeo: North Korea Afraid Trump Is Serious About Denuclearization

CIA Director Mike Pompeo (Photo: Screen grab/"Fox News Sunday")
(CNSNews.com) - Representatives of the North Korean government are scheduled to meet on Tuesday with their counterparts from South Korea in the demilitarized zone. The first formal talks in two years are expected to focus on North Korea's interest in sending athletes to the winter games in Seoul.
"Fox News Sunday" asked CIA Director Mike Pompeo if the talks are a "good thing," or if they are intended to "drive a wedge" between the U.S. and South Korea:
"Look, the North Koreans are in a tough spot," Pompeo said. "President Trump has made very clear that the U.S. policy is denuclearization of the peninsula, and that we are going to achieve that.

"So, you see the North Koreans doing what they have historically done, reaching out, trying to find space, trying to come up for air when they are being strangled by a president who's made very clear that their behavior is unacceptable.

"And so, yes, this is certainly part of that. We'll see how the talks go on Tuesday of this week and what they are able to resolve with respect to the Olympics. But the American position is unchanged."

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley articulated the American position last week, when she said the U.S. won't take the talks seriously, if "they don't do something to ban all nuclear weapons in North Korea."

"The North Koreans are behaving out of fear, that is, they are very concerned that America for the first time in an awfully long time is serious about denuclearizing the peninsula," Pompeo told "Fox News Sunday. "And I think they are finding -- trying to find a foothold, trying to find a place to reach out. And we'll -- we'll just have to wait and see how the conversations go on Tuesday."

Host Chris Wallace asked Pompeo about President Trump's tweet, where he said he had a "much bigger and more powerful" nuclear button on his desk than North Korea's dictator has:

"How is that helpful to get in this back-and-forth of taunts with the leader whom you and the CIA judge as unstable?" Wallace asked.

"This is the first time in an awfully long time that American policy has been consistent," Pompeo said.

"That tweet is entirely consistent with what we are trying to communicate. We want the regime to understand that unlike before, we are intent on resolving this, and it is our firm conviction that resolving this diplomatically is the correct answer. But that this administration is prepared to do what it takes to ensure that people in Los Angeles and Denver and New York aren't held at risk from Kim Jong-un having a nuclear weapon. That tweet is entirely consistent with that policy."

Pompeo said he disagrees with those who say Trump's tweet trivializes the possibility of nuclear war:

"We in this administration understand the seriousness of what it is we're undertaking," Pompeo said. "We understand the threat. We speak -- I speak with the president about it nearly every day.

"But we are intent upon laying out a set of plans that achieve the goal that, frankly, previous administrations have been unprepared to engage in."

Democrats are trying out a new angle to undermine Trump

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro

Democrats are floundering.

Hardly anyone is talking about “collusion” with Russia anymore.

That’s why some Democrats are pivoting to a new assault on Trump that could undermine the very foundation of our government.

The 25th Amendment.

Added to the Constitution in 1967, the idea was to clarify the wording in Article II, Section 1, Clause 6 of the Constitution, which does not expressly state whether the Vice President becomes the President or Acting President when the President dies, resigns, or is removed from office.

Since then, it’s only been invoked six times. Three during the vacancies created by the Nixon Administration’s resignations, and three other times when Presidents underwent medical procedures requiring anesthesia.

Now, House Democrats are considering weaponizing the 25th Amendment in an effort spearheaded by Rosa DeLauro (D-CT).

They want Trump declared “mentally unfit” and use the Amendment to replace him.
And they’re getting help from partisan psychiatrists to do so.
The Washington Times reports on this plot:

Lawmakers will gather for dinner Wednesday night at the Washington home of Rep. Rosa DeLauro, Connecticut Democrat, in a “salon-like” setting to hear from Dr. Bandy Lee, a Yale University professor and forensic psychiatrist who believes Mr. Trump is “dangerous” and requires a mental-capacity exam.
….
Democratic lawmakers have been raising questions about Mr. Trump’s mental fitness since last spring. Dr. Lee, who has co-authored a book asserting the president’s unfitness for office, held a similar meeting last month with about a dozen House and Senate Democrats.

In an interview with Vox, Dr. Lee cited several reasons for her concern that Mr. Trump is a danger to the public, including the “sheer frequency of his tweets [that] seemed to reflect the frantic state of mind he was entering, and his retweeting some violent anti-Muslim videos showed a concerning attraction to violence. And then there were the belligerent nuclear threats [toward North Korea].”

The tactic is not without its critics though, as the article points out.

Dr. Lee is taking some professional criticism for offering her opinions on what she calls the president’s “mental health crisis.” Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman, former president of the American Psychiatric Association, called it “political partisanship disguised as patriotism.”

“More than any other medical specialty, psychiatry is vulnerable to being exploited for partisan political purposes and for bypassing due process for establishing guilt, fault, and fact,” Dr. Lieberman wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine. “

While citizens have an obligation to speak out against government injustice, he said, “that does not mean that psychiatrists can use their medical credentials to brand elected officials with neuropsychiatric diagnoses without sufficient evidence and appropriate circumstances. To do so undermines the profession’s integrity and credibility.”

What are your thoughts about the House Democrats’ latest scheme to undermine Trump?

Oprah Uses Golden Globes To Call Out Sexual Predators, That’s When Shapiro Spots It

On Sunday, conservative commentator and Daily Wire Editor in Chief Ben Shapiro dismantled a line Oprah Winfrey used for her Golden Globes address.

During her acceptance speech Sunday at the 75th Golden Globe Awards, Winfrey was one of many who used her time on the mic to make subtle jabs at President Donald Trump and give a nod to progressive talking points.
However, when the media mogul issued a line about “your truth,” Shapiro had a strong retort.
“I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association because we all know the press is under siege these days, but we also know that it is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and injustice, to tyrants and victims and secrets and lies,” Winfrey remarked during her speech, according to The Washington Post.
“I want to say that I value the press more than ever before as we try to navigate these complicated times, which brings me to this: What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have.”
Not long after, Shapiro took to Twitter to point out the obvious.
There is no such thing as “your truth.” There is the truth and your opinion. https://twitter.com/ew/status/950203408773996544 …
“There is no such thing as ‘your truth.’ There is the truth and your opinion,” he wrote back.
Shapiro’s tweet echoed a famous motto he has adopted and frequently used over the years: “Facts don’t care about your feelings.”
Winfrey went on to address the wave of sexual misconduct allegations that have rocked the movie industry in recent months.

“I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up to share their personal stories,” she continued.
“I want tonight to express gratitude to all the women who have endured years of abuse and assault because they, like my mother, had children to feed and bills to pay and dreams to pursue.”
In recent days, the media has been consumed with endless reports of powerful men being accused of sexual misconduct by women in lower positions of authority — allegations that began with Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein.
However, many online users were quick to share a photo of Winfrey that made her speech appear hypocritical.

Winfrey’s relationship with Weinstein has been called into question, with one Weinstein accuser even suggesting he leveraged his friendship with Winfrey to seduce her for sexual relations, according to the New York Post.

Despite the push-back from Shapiro and others, Winfrey’s Golden Globe speech was widely lauded by those on the left, with many openly speculating if the former host of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” will launch a 2020 presidential bid.

McCarthy Warns Pelosi Against Holding Government ‘Hostage’ Over DACA

House majority leader says of Dem colleague from California, 'We should not play with the military at any time with politics'

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) warned House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) against holding the government “hostage” through her crusade to protect illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children at the expense of the U.S. military and all other issues.

McCarthy criticized Pelosi on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo” for “whipping her members to vote against funding the government just for two weeks.” Congress faces a January 19 deadline to approve a spending resolution to keep federal offices open.

“And that is why we’re working on getting that budget agreement, to be able to ‘plus up’ the military,” McCarthy said. “But the Democrats are holding that hostage. And I think that’s wrong. We should not play with the military at any time with politics.”

Democrats are lobbying hard for Congress to protect illegal immigrants under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which President Donald Trump rescinded.

Trump set a March deadline for Congress to reform DACA or permanently repeal it. Congressional Democrats maintain that no funding bill can be reached if a DACA fix isn’t included.

"Well, the real difficulty is [what] we had on some of the votes at the very end. You have the minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, whipping her members to vote against funding the government just for two weeks and it's all over DACA," McCarthy said, noting that DACA "doesn't have to be dealt with until March."

McCarthy said he would be attending Tuesday's bipartisan meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss such issues as illegal immigration, DACA, and border security.

"We want to solve this problem, but most importantly, we don't want to have to deal with this problem in the future," McCarthy said. "So you've got to have border security. You've got to deal with chain migration, and it's a place that everybody could find common ground and solve."

The inability to reach a government funding agreement also holds serious consequences for military funding and national security concerns, McCarthy noted.

Trump To End ObamaCare As We Know It
By Dick Morris

The other shoe in Donald Trump’s war on ObamaCare is about to drop. It will end ObamaCare as we know it.
The first step in ending this obnoxious, intrusive program was to end the requirement that everybody must have health Insurance Coverage. Thanks to deft manuring by a unanimous Senate majority, this diktat was lifted in the Christmas tax cut.
Now, the second step is about to happen: Trump will eliminate the requirement that all ObamaCare policies cover everything — from psychological counseling to drug addiction therapy to maternity benefits to smoker cessation to sex change operations whether the customer wants it or can afford it or not.
It is this requirement — enacted at the behest of the various lobbyists representing the provider organizations — that has forced up the cost of ObamaCare, triggering the need for massive taxpayer subsidy, and putting its premiums and deductibles, even after the federal subsidy, out of reach for many Americans.
But, soon you will be able to buy what coverage you want from ObamaCare without restriction or buy nothing at all.
Eureka!
All of the prodigious efforts of Texas Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and others to make these changes by amendment are now being swept up in a massive rule change by the Administration.
With this change, ObamaCare could become just one of the many options consumers have and not a particularly bad one at that.
To make this change work within the current statutory language, Trump will loosen the rules governing small businesses that Band together to buy health insurance, through what are known as association health plans. This change, recommended in this column for months, will allow them to circumvent ObamaCare’s regulations. Under the new rules, associations will be able to buy cheaper Health Insurance that won’t cover the ten “essential Health benefits” mandated in ObamaCare.
Trump is also expected to allow the expansion emergency, short-term health insurance plans, allowing them to last for an entire year and to be renewed. These plans would be exempt from the regulations governing ObamaCare policies, meaning that insurers will be able to charge more for people with pre-existing conditions. (But, don’t worry, those with major pre-existing conditions — that make policies unaffordable — will still be able to get low cost coverage through the Pre-Existing Conditions Insurance Program (PCIP) created by ObamaCare and unaffected by the current regulations. Currently, over 100,000 people are covered by PCIP.
If, as Democrats contend, President Trump is losing it mentally, he must still have something upstairs to come up with so deft a way of reforming ObamaCare by regulation.

Reporter Asks Mattis if He Has Any Concerns in 2018 — His Response Was Amazing

BY BRISTOL PALIN3

USMC-08001Secretary of Defense James Mattis is a badass.
Though people criticize President Donald Trump, they rarely question his decision to appoint Mattis to the position of Secretary of Defense.  The retired United States Marine Corps general is the 26th Secretary of Defense and was previously the 11th Commander of United States Central Command under President Barack Obama. During that time, he was responsible for American military operations in the Middle East, Northeast Africa, and Central Asia.
According to Wikipedia, he was selected by Trump in the following way:
Then-President-elect Donald Trump met with Mattis for a little over one hour in Bedminster, New Jersey, on November 20, 2016. He later stated on Twitter, “General James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis, who is being considered for Secretary of Defense, was very impressive yesterday. A true General’s General!” On December 1, 2016, Trump announced at a rally in Cincinnati that he would nominate Mattis for United States Secretary of Defense. As Mattis retired from the military in 2013, his nomination required a waiver of the National Security Act of 1947, which requires a seven-year waiting period before retired military personnel can assume the role of Secretary of Defense. Mattis is the second Secretary of Defense to receive such a waiver, following George Marshall. Mattis was officially confirmed as Secretary of Defense by a vote of 98–1 in the United States Senate on January 20, 2017.

When Trump appointed Mattis, his appointment assuaged the fears of even his fiercest critics. Mattis’s no-nonsense and fearless approach to defense impresses the entire globe.

Here’s a great example.

On Friday, he was talking to the press, a very rare discussion in deed.  He doesn’t say much, so his words usually make headlines. Voice of America correspondent Carla Babb asked him, “What is your biggest military concern for 2018?”

He didn’t hesitate before responding, “I don’t have concerns. I create them.”

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., announced Tuesday he will undergo surgery on Wednesday as part of his recovery from a near-fatal gunshot to his hip in June during practice for the Congressional Baseball Game.
“I have been fortunate to make tremendous progress in my healing from last June's shooting, and tomorrow I will undergo a planned surgery as part of my ongoing recovery process," Scalise said in a statement.
"I appreciate all of the continued prayers as I move forward with my recovery, and I continue to be thankful for the dedicated care I am receiving from my medical team," Scalise said. "I will remain fully engaged in my work as I heal from this procedure, and I look forward to returning to the Capitol as soon as I can within the coming weeks."
The Louisiana Republican returned to work in September after over three months of recovery from the gunshot wound, which he said almost killed him.

House Intel Committee Has Received All Docs On Trump Dossier from DOJ, FBI

By Daily Caller Richard Pollock – Reporter

House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence members gained access to all Department of Justice and FBI documents it possesses on the Trump dossier, The Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

The committee was able to review Friday all FBI and DOJ documents on the Trump dossier, former MI-6 British agent Christopher Steele who authored the dossier, and Fusion GPS, the political opposition firm that hired Steele. DOJ also provided Obama administration applications to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which could approve the surveillance of the Trump transition team, according to a source with direct knowledge of the case.
The information could serve as a key breakthrough in the committee’s investigation of Steele, Fusion GPS and the Russians who influenced the dossiers’ contents.
The only exception to the release was an FBI one FD-302 document that FBI Director Christopher Wray showed only to Nunes. The document pertains to interviews of sources or suspects.
The committee also will have access to interview key Justice Department and FBI officials later in January.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes announced on Jan. 3 that assistant Attorney General Rob Rosenstein approved committee access to documents pertaining to Steele, Fusion GPS and any applications for surveillance of Trump transition officials.
The committee’s document request was re-issued in a Jan. 4 letter from Nunes to Rosenstein.
The Intelligence Committee is seeking a clear understanding of how the FBI and Obama’s Justice Department officials used the dossier, which Steele compiled from unknown Russian sources. The dossier contained unverified and disparaging charges about Trump’s activities in Russia.
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid Fusion GPS for the dossier. The intelligence committee is also investigating whether the FBI or the Justice Department also agreed to pay Steele for his information, how they used the information and what steps, if any, they took to verify its content.
The documents additionally could provide insights into the Obama administration’s request to “unmask” or force the intelligence community to reveal the identity of Trump transition officials who were in contact with diplomats and foreign principals.
The Justice Department and the FBI have actively stonewalled Congress since 2017 over the Obama administration’s relationship to Fusion GPS, Steele and its use of the dossier to obtain a warrant before the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Court, which can authorize surveillance on American citizens.
Nunes expressed frustration with the lack of any response to the requests for documents in a December letter to Rosenstein. “Unfortunately, DOJ/FBI’s intransigence with respect to the August 24 subpoenas is part of a broader pattern of behavior that can no longer be tolerated,” he wrote.
“As a result of the numerous delays and discrepancies that have hampered the process of subpoena compliance, the committee no longer credits the representations made by DOJ and/or the FBI regarding these matters,” Nunes told Rosenstein.
The information also could be used for a criminal investigation of Steele.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, said he believed Steele lied to federal authorities about his contacts with reporters regarding information in the dossier, and he urged the department to investigate.
“I don’t take lightly making a referral for criminal investigation,” he said. “But, as I would with any credible evidence of a crime unearthed in the course of our investigations, I feel obliged to pass that information along to the Justice Department for appropriate review,” he said according to The New York Times.
The DCNF contacted the White House for confirmation about the matter but has not yet received any response.
