Melania Trump reveals she is Catholic: The First Lady shares her faith with the world after meeting the Pope as the first Catholic to live in White House since JFK
-
Melania Trump's spokeswoman confirms that she's a Catholic
-
The first lady met with Pope Francis on Wednesday at the Vatican, where he blessed a rosary for her
-
Then she went to a Vatican-affiliated pediatric hospital where she met with children, prayed in a chapel and laid flowers at the feet of a statue of Mary
-
One boy she met, who needed a donor heart, will get his organ transplant, the hospital learned just hours after Melania's visit
-
It's unclear when Melania became a Catholic or when she was baptized
-
She and her sister weren't baptized as infants and didn't make their First Holy Communion along with other kids their age
-
Her father was a member of the Communist Party in Slovenia in order to work, and the party was official atheist
-
Melania opened a February presidential rally in Florida by surprising the president with a recitation of the Lord's Prayer
When Melania Trump recited The Lord's Prayer before a Melbourne, Florida presidential rally in February, the Internet went hog wild.
Now we know one reason why the first lady began with 'Let us pray' and 'Our Father who art in heaven' when she introduced the president that evening: She's a practicing Roman Catholic.
Her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham confirmed that to DailyMail.com on Wednesday, hours after Pope Francis blessed a rosary for her at the Vatican.
The last Catholics to live in the White House were John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie. Melania and her son Barron will move to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue over the summer.
Mrs. Trump did more than just show up for a Papal audience.
She spent time in prayer at the Vatican-affiliated Bambino Gesù (Baby Jesus) Hospital, and laid flowers at the feet of a statue of the Madonna.

The Trumps spoke with the Pontiff, and Melania told him she was looking forward to visiting the hospital 'for the bambinos'
Mrs. Trump also prayed in the hospital's chapel on Wednesday
She also prayed in the hospital chapel and read to a young Greek boy in need of a donor heart – holding his hand in the Intensive Care Unit while camera shutters snapped.
The almighty may have heard her.
'Upon landing in Belgium, I learned a young boy and his family who had been waiting for a heart transplant was informed that the hospital has found a donor,' she said in a statement.
'I read a book and held hands with this special little one just a few hours ago, and now my own heart is filled with joy over this news.'
The first lady later tweeted about the development with the hashtags '#Blessings' and '#Faith.'
In another tweet, she sent 'blessings to all' after her Papal audience.
Mrs. Trump told Pope Francis at the Vatican that she was looking forward to going to the hospital 'for the bambinos.' She later called the visit 'very moving.'
'To spend time speaking to and coloring with children who have such a positive spirit despite illness was an amazing gift,' she said.
'The time I spent with the little ones in the Intensive Care Unit is something I will never forget, and I will pray for each of them daily.'

Mystery solved: Melania surprised a Melbourne, Florida crowd in February when she opened her introduction of her husband by reciting the Lord's Prayer
The first lady hugged a young boy in need of a heart transplant at the hospital on Wednesday
Hours later she learned that doctors had found a donor organ for the child
It's unclear when Mrs. Trump became a Catholic. The president is a life-long Presbyterian, and they were married in a Florida Episcopal church.
Growing up as the daughter of a Communist Party member in rural Slovenia, her family maintained the outward appearances of being atheists, according to people in her childhood village of Sevnica who spoke to DailyMail.com in late 2015.
Accordingly, Melania and her sister were not baptized and did not make their First Holy Communion with other children their age.
It's still not clear when Mrs. Trump was baptized into the Catholic faith. Grisham did not immediately respond to a question about that detail.
But the Trumps have been in a reflective religious mood since arriving in Saudi Arabia last Saturday. That frame of mind persisted throughout their time in Israel.

The president addressed 55 world leaders from Arab and other Muslim-majority nations in Riyadh, imploring them to be part of 'a coalition of nations who share the aim of stamping out extremism and providing our children a hopeful future that does honor to God.'
In Jerusalem he visited the famed Western Wall, slipping a written prayer between the centuries-old stones as custom permits.
He 'marveled at the monument to God's presence and man's perseverance,' he said Tuesday in a speech at the Israel Museum.
'I was humbled to place my hand upon the wall and to pray in that holy space for wisdom from God,' Trump told an audience of Jewish officials.
'This city, like no other place in the world, reveals the longing of the human heart – to know and worship God.'
Much of Melania's early religious history is unclear; people in her native Slovenian village of Sevnica say her Communist Party-enrolled father didn't have her baptized or sponsor her First Communion, in keeping with the atheist appearances of the communists
The Trumps were married in 205 at Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Palm Beach, Florida, and the president is a life-long Presbyterian, suggesting that her Catholic conversion has come in the last 12 years
Trump issued a proclamation on Wednesday calling for a national 'day of prayer for permanent peace' on May 29, the upcoming Memorial Day holiday.
'On this ceremonious day, we remember the fallen, we pray for a lasting peace among nations, and we honor these guardians of our inalienable rights,' he said.
'I designate the hour beginning in each locality at 11:00 a.m. of that day as a time when people might unite in prayer. I urge the press, radio, television, and all other information media to cooperate in this observance,' Trump added.
Trump to hold campaign rally in Iowa next Thursday
BY MALLORY SHELBOURNE
President Trump will hold a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa next week, his campaign committee announced on Wednesday.
The rally will take place on Thursday, June 1, and follows Trump’s first visit abroad as president. The president returns to the U.S. on Sunday.
Trump last held a campaign rally in Harrisburg, Pa., on April 29, the same night as the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C.
Trump broke with long-standing political tradition by not attending the yearly dinner.
"They would love to be with us right here tonight," Trump said of the press that night, adding his rally drew a “much larger crowd, and better people, too.”

Elizabeth Warren Got Asked This Question And It Could Ruin Her
Elizabeth Warren is running for reelection in 2018.
She believes a victory will be her stepping stone to the Presidency in 2020.
But she was asked one question that could bring all her plans crashing down.
When Warren first ran for office in 2012, she was dogged by her lies about her supposed Native American heritage.
Now a challenger in 2018 is raising the issue once again.
The Washington Free Beacon reports:
“A CANDIDATE FOR THE 2018 U.S. SENATE RACE IN MASSACHUSETTS TWEETED OUT A VIDEO ON SUNDAY CHALLENGING SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN (D., MASS.) TO PROVE HER CLAIMS OF HAVING AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE.
V.A. SHIVA, WHO IS SEEKING THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION IN 2018 AND HAS CLAIMED HE INVENTED EMAIL, FILMED HIMSELF HOLDING A “23ANDME” DNA TESTING KIT, WHICH HE CLAIMS REQUIRES ONLY HIS SALIVA AND A “FEW SHORT DAYS” TO PROVE IF HE WAS A REAL INDIAN. SHIVA WAS BORN IN BOMBAY, INDIA, WHILE WARREN’S CLAIM IS ABOUT HAVING AMERICAN INDIAN, OR NATIVE AMERICAN, HERITAGE.
“I WANT TO CHALLENGE ELIZABETH WARREN TO DO THE SAME,” HE SAID. “I’M CALLING THIS NOW THE REAL INDIAN VS. FAKE INDIAN CHALLENGE. ELIZABETH, WHY DON’T YOU DO THIS? IT’S REALLY, REALLY SIMPLE.”
Back in 2012, it was revealed that Warren said she was of Cherokee heritage.
Critics blasted her for claiming to be a minority to help her get a job.
Warren alleged family stories were evidence of her Native American ancestry, but no corroborating evidence has emerged.
Shiva stoked the controversy by tweeting out a video of real Cherokee Indians ripping Warren for her dishonesty.
V.A. SHIVA

.@SenWarren The Cherokee People are disgusted by you. Watch this video. They know you are a #FakeIndian . Apology?
Trump used Warren’s scandal to his advantage by dismissing her as “Pocahontas” when she would try and needle him on the campaign trail.
NBC News reports:
“PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP RETURNED TO ONE OF HIS MOST DEROGATORY INSULTS FRIDAY, REFERRING TO MASSACHUSETTS SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN AS “POCAHONTAS” — A JAB AT HER NATIVE AMERICAN ANCESTRY.
SPEAKING TO A CHEERING CROWD OF NRA MEMBERS IN ATLANTA, TRUMP SAID “IT MAY BE POCAHONTAS” WHO SEEKS THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION IN 2020.
“SHE IS NOT BIG ON THE NRA,” TRUMP ADDED, AN APPARENT REFERENCE TO WARREN’S SUPPORT OF GUN-CONTROL MEASURES.“
During the 2016 election, Trump dispatched many of his opponents – from Jeb Bush to Ted Cruz to Hillary Clinton – by labeling them with hilarious nicknames that cut to the heart of voter’s negative perceptions about them as people or politicians.
Warren is expected to easily win re-election in deep blue Massachusetts.
But because Shiva is re-raising the issue that Warren falsely claimed to have a Native American heritage, he could be prepping the groundwork for Trump to use it against her in a possible 2020 match up.
Top Student Aid Official in Department of Education Resigns
Ever since then-candidate Donald J. Trump first announced his candidacy back in 2015, he has pledged to clean up Washington, D.C. and end business as usual.
President Trump is not a politician, and believes that, for too long, our government has been run by special interest groups that seek to enrich themselves at the expense of the American people.
One of the major hurdles President Trump has in implementing his bold, conservative agenda is the fact that much of the federal government is filled with Obama holdovers, who vehemently oppose any efforts to return power back to the states.
Now, one Obama holdover, James Runcie, who serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Office of Federal Student Aid since being appointed by Obama in 2011, abruptly resigned from his position, and predictably blamed his new boss, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, for his decision to leave the government.
But the real reason seems to be totally different. This is great!
The Education Department’s top student financial aid officer, a holdover from the Obama administration, quit the position Tuesday night and sent an email to his staff warning about brewing management problems he perceived within the agency.
Department spokeswoman Liz Hill said Runcie refused Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’s request that he testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Thursday about the department’s handling of improper financial aid payments.
“Congress requested Mr. Runcie to testify and Mr. Runcie refused to appear. The Secretary directed Mr. Runcie to comply with the request of Congress and to answer questions regarding oversight within FSA and repeated issues concerning improper payments,” Hill said, in an email. “He chose to resign rather than face Congress.”

Under President Trump and Ms. DeVos, the Department of Education is set to see a major overhaul, with an emphasis on school choice and reforming how federal student loans are allocated.
DeVos’ views on education are at odds with individuals like Runcie. Liberals believe in federal control over education policy. They think they know better than local parents.
Ever since President Trump nominated Ms. DeVos, the left has viciously opposed her taking over the Department of Education due to her strong opposition to teacher’s unions and support for school choice.
If Runcie is unable to implement the policies outlined by the Trump administration then he should resign, but he shouldn’t blame his boss for his inability to do his job.
Maybe Congress should subpoena him to testify anyway!
11 Unauthorized Government Spending Programs Trump Cut From His 2018 Budget
MANDEL NGAN/AFP/Getty Images
This week, Donald Trump submitted his 2018 Taxpayers First Budget. In producing the budget, Mick Mulvaney, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, announced that the Trump Administration has discovered approximately $300 billion in federal spending in programs that have expired. This unauthorized spending has a real impact on balancing the budget.
The Trump administration has not yet announced a full list of the programs that are unauthorized, but a quick review of the 2018 budget found 11 programs that Trump is terminating because Congress has not renewed the program in some time.
The Trump administration has not yet announced a full list of the programs that are unauthorized, but a quick review of the 2018 budget found 11 programs that Trump is terminating because Congress has not renewed the program in some time.
1. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration
The Economic Development Administration spent $251 million dollars in 2017. This agency’s authority to exist expired in 2008.
2. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Grants and Education
In 2017, NOAA spent $217 million on state, local, and/or industry interests (think special interest).
3. Department of Health and Human Services, Community Services Block Grant
The Community Services Block Grant funds approximately 1,000 non-profit and local government organizations to a tune of $714 million dollars. These funds are not tied to performance and the money has been allocated based on what a state received in 1981.
4. Department of Homeland Security, Port Security Grants and Transit Security Assistance
The 2018 Budget did not mention how much the individual Port Security Grant program spends each year but did mention it was an unauthorized program and that the Department’s budget would be reduced. Overall, the 2018 budget eliminates $218 million from Homeland Security for programs that are being eliminated.
5. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Choice Neighborhoods
The 2018 Budget proposes to eliminate the $125 million budget of Choice Neighborhoods and allow state and local governments to provide incentives to private interests to improve neighborhoods.
6. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Community Development Block Grant
The Community Development Block Grant has spent approximately $150 billion since its inception in 1974. The 2018 budget states that the grants have not demonstrated a measurable impact.
7. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Indian Community Development Block Grant
This $60 million block grant fund is being eliminated because it is duplicative and no longer authorized by Congress. This fund authorized grants to Tribes for the construction of affordable housing. There is no matrix to prove that this grant actually had any impact on affordable housing.
8. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Self-Help and Assisted Homeownership Opportunity Program Account
In addition to offering duplicative services, this program has been expired since 2001. For 16 years, this program has been giving money to non-profit organizations to assist with community development activities. This program will waste $56 Million in 2017.
9. Department of Justice, State Criminal Alien Assistance Program
This duplicative and unauthorized program reimburses states and local governments for the cost of incarcerating illegal criminal aliens. This program is poorly administered in that the local governments applying for the funds did not actually have to use the funds for detaining illegal criminal aliens. A large portion of the funds go to New York and California.
10. Department of Transportation, National Infrastructure Investments
This $499 million discretionary grant program was part of the 2009 stimulus bill. It spends federal dollars on local projects with no national or regional interests. This grant program has not been authorized by Congress for the last two years.
11. Department of Treasury, Community Development Financial Institutions Fund
This program was created in 1994 and is currently unauthorized. This program was designed to assist in the expansion of credit for “low-income and underserved people and communities.” This fund has created 1,100 Treasury-certified CDFIs. The Trump 2018 budget is eliminating the ability for this program to issue grants but is allowing the program to provide oversight for the 1,100 CDFIs that the program created in the last 23 years.
Planned Parenthood Executive Urges Pro-Choicers to Concede ‘It’s Killing’
Center for Medical Progress continues to release videos following indictment, injunction

The Center for Medical Progress continues to release footage of abortion doctors candidly discussing gruesome late-term terminations and organ harvesting one month after its founder was indicted in California in connection to his undercover reports.
The pro-life investigative journalists released a three-minute undercover video on Thursday taken from the 2014 and 2015 National Abortion Federation conventions. Officials from Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, and other industry insiders discuss the techniques they use to retrieve organs in the video.
Dr. Lisa Harris, medical director of Planned Parenthood of Michigan, delivered a convention talk about the hidden side of the abortion industry.
"Our stories don't really have a place in a lot of pro-choice discourse and rhetoric, right? The heads that get stuck that we can’t get out," she said as the audience laughed. "Those are all parts of our experience. But, there's no real good place for us to share those."
Harris said that the pro-choice community should concede certain rhetorical points to the pro-life community, adding that abortion is an inherently violent act and a form of "killing." She said that abortion doctors "see the fetus the same way" that pro-life activists do, but that should not stop pro-choice advocates from defending their position.
"Given that we might actually both agree that there's violence in here, ask me why I come to work everyday," she said. "Let's just give them all the violence, it's a person, it's killing, let's just give them all that."
Neither the NAF nor Planned Parenthood returned request for comment.
Other Planned Parenthood employees candidly discussed the exchange of organs obtained from aborted babies for money,
"I know Planned Parenthood sells a lot of stuff to people," Planned Parenthood of Maryland's Dr. Paul Blumenthal said.
Dr. Ann Schutt-Aine, director of abortion services at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, described the struggle to keep babies from slipping out of the womb in order to avoid performing partial birth abortion, a practice made illegal in 2003.
"I might ask for a second set of forceps to hold the body at the cervix, and pull off a leg or two so it's not PBA," she said.
Planned Parenthood has denied any wrongdoing in its organ harvesting practices and has criticized the videos as "deceptively edited." The organization said that it would stop accepting cash payments—which it claimed were only reimbursements to recoup storage and transportation costs—from researchers for fetal organs after CMP began releasing videos in the summer of 2015.
NAF had successfully obtained a court injunction barring the release of video footage from its convention. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld that injunction in March.
"There’s no denying that the smear campaign launched by the defendants has put abortion providers at risk, and we are grateful that the Ninth Circuit affirmed our preliminary injunction," NAF President Vicki Saporta said in a statement at the time. "As we’ve known all along, David Daleiden and his co-conspirators are the ones who broke the law, not abortion providers."
Daleiden's attorneys at Steve Cooley & Associates released the new video. The firm is defending Daleiden from multiple felony charges filed by California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, a longtime Democratic lawmaker who has collected thousand of dollars in campaign contributions from Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups.
Several of the doctors captured in the newly released video, including Harris, were listed as victims in the state's indictment, which had previously hidden their identities as anonymous "Does." The law firm said that it published the footage to show that the abortion industry was attempting to "further suppress [Daleiden's] undercover journalism."
"The plaintiff in the civil suit, the National Abortion Federation (NAF) and its partner Planned Parenthood (PP), had importuned the Attorney General to initiate a criminal investigation into David in order to further suppress his undercover journalism," the firm said in a release attached to the video. "David had exposed the most infamous and disturbing story of unethical and illegal medical practices since the Tuskegee Institute scandal-the harvesting and sale for profit of fetal organs, tissues and limbs from late term aborted fetuses."
Pro-life activists hailed the release of the new footage. Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, said that the new video was the "most graphic" footage she had seen during the organ harvesting scandal.
"This is the worst, most graphic conversation we have heard from the abortion industry to date. A civilized nation dares not look away from this assault on the core of our character as a people. This behavior is indefensible and must be stopped," she said in a release. "Cecile Richards: I dare you to call these videos ‘deceptively edited’ today. There is no way the incredibly disturbing descriptions in this footage could have been placed in the mouths of senior Planned Parenthood staff and their associates."
The president just made a titanic foreign policy shift. The media missed it.
President Trump called the spread of terrorism around the world “tragedy” during a speech on May 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. (The Washington Post)
By Newt Gingrich
This newspaper’s legendary former publisher, Philip Graham, famously described journalism as the business of writing the “first rough draft of history.” This week, as President Trump gave a historic speech in Saudi Arabia before the leaders of more than 50 Muslim-majority nations, journalism’s first draft missed the history almost entirely.
While the media focused on the ephemeral questions — whether the president would use campaign rhetoric in a diplomatic setting, or how the trip would affect the Obama legacy — they largely missed the real drama of the moment: a titanic shift in U.S. foreign policy occurring right before their eyes.
Trump stood before an unprecedented gathering of leaders to do something far more significant than utter a single phrase or undermine his predecessor’s record. He was there to rally the Muslim world, in his words, “to meet history’s great test” — defeating the forces of terrorism and extremism. He did so in a way that no American president ever had before. While extending a hand of friendship to Muslim nations, he also issued them a clear challenge: to take the lead in solving the crisis that has engulfed their region and spread across the planet. “Drive out the terrorists and extremists,” he urged them, or consign your peoples to futures of misery and squalor.
To find a comparably dramatic moment in the history of U.S. foreign policy, we have to look all the way back to 1982. That June, 35 years ago next month, President Ronald Reagan stood in the Royal Gallery at the Palace of Westminster in London and called on the West to rally in defense of freedom and against communist aggression.
In that one speech, Reagan predicted the fall of communism and reinvigorated the Western alliance. “We see totalitarian forces in the world who seek subversion and conflict around the globe to further their barbarous assault on the human spirit,” Reagan said. “What, then, is our course? Must civilization perish in a hail of fiery atoms? Must freedom wither in a quiet, deadening accommodation with totalitarian evil?”
Reagan declared his speech a turning point in history — and it was. On Sunday, Trump, too, declared that his challenge would be a turning point, one way or another. And he posed to that assembly in Riyadh an equally dramatic choice. It was, he said, “a choice between two futures” — the path of civilization, or the path of evil and death.
“America is prepared to stand with you” in the fight against terrorism, Trump pledged. “But the nations of the Middle East cannot wait for American power to crush this enemy for them. The nations of the Middle East will have to decide what kind of future they want for themselves, for their countries, and for their children.”
The U.S. president started his journey in Saudi Arabia and moved on to Israel and Italy.
Never before has an American president tried so clearly to unite the civilized world, including the nations of the Middle East and Africa, against the forces of terrorism. Never before has an American president issued so direct a challenge to those nations to do more in the fight. And never before has an American president so plainly put the ultimate responsibility for eradicating terrorism on the nations of the region. In doing so, Trump’s speech implicitly repudiated the approaches of his two immediate predecessors and promised instead what he characterized as a “principled realism,” based on a clear-eyed view of America’s interests, security and limits.
That this decisive shift in U.S. foreign policy occurred on a foreign trip within the first four months of the administration is all the more impressive. Reagan didn’t take his first international trip until well into his second year. And unlike President Barack Obama’s early speech to the Muslim world in 2009, Trump backed up his words with action.
The United States and Saudi Arabia signed a $110 billion arms deal, the largest in U.S. history, which will bolster the kingdom’s ability to contribute to counterterrorism operations across the region. This will reduce the burden on the U.S. military and send a clear message that this administration takes the threat of Iran seriously. The agreements also included a new commitment to crack down on terrorism financing in the Persian Gulf states, as well as hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of Saudi investment in the United States.
Journalists and Washington bureaucrats, who are so deeply embedded in the establishment that they can’t see out of it, may see Trump’s call to action as a distracting sideshow from a status quo they can’t imagine changing. And yet this week, it already has. Foreign leaders and the American people alike can see in this trip the core of a new, reality-based foreign policy.
